would you daily drive a supercar?

let's say you want to turn in your "ricer" membership, sell off your 800bhp GT-R that you drive every day, and buy a "proper" exotic. Lamborghini or a Ferrari of equivalent cost and exclusivity.

Would you drive it every day, using it as basic transportation as well as your car of passion? Why or why not?

The thought just came to mind when I was having a chat with my mechanic friend today, and a 30 year old bloke rumbled in with his 612 Scaglietti sitting on 22" rims. Daily drivable?

Think if you´ll get a Ferrari for daily driving, you need 2-3 of them as they are more in the workshop for repairs/service as you drive them

For me,a Ferrari or Lambo has nothing exotic more then a GTR. Daily drivable supercar, maybe a 911 Turbo, but,i mean, doesn´t count as a supercar for me,its a porker.

supercar, yes. hypercar, no.

Imagine driving a pagani zonda F on a daily basis. I'd love to...heck if i had one i would take it to work once or twice a month. As for a supercar, I think a 550 maranello would do just fine for daily driving.

I would have to say that you can use any super car like a Gallardo, F430, GT3, Turbo or an R8 as a daily driver and it would be quite capable of doing the job.

However, I live opposite JK who has a black Enzo and I regularly see him using it on the weekends and in the week tottering around town. The problem comes when you start looking at the extremely high maintenance costs and would devalue to such a large extent because of the high miles it would be pointless to drive it every day unless you are willing to incur the loss of over 70% of the car's value.

For example in EVO, there is a guy who writes in the fast fleet who owned a Murcielago, he bought it for £172K new in Sep 2004 and has sold it in Oct 2008 for £85K with 44K miles on the clock and in that time spent £18K in services and £14K on clutches and tyres.
Add all that up and he has lost over £120K in 4 years of ownership and 11K miles a year on it. If you are willing and are financially able to do that then go for it. The owner obviously is as he has just bought a new LP640...

I Would srive one every day. the one i would choose for that would be the Lamborghini Gallardo. German build quality and V10 engine, Awsome looks too. Not too wide to park and get around too.

If a person can afford to do so, then I don't see why not.

But as the qeustion asks, would I daily drive a supercar? Again, if I could afford to do so, I would.

to me it would also be what sort of roads i'd be driving. i'd HATE to drive a supercar (zonda, F40...practically any supercar with a proper gearbox) in london traffic. but if my daily commute would consist of twisty backroads and long a-road stretches, you wouldnt have to ask me a second time.

I recon a DB9 would be pretty nice to drive in london...just press the automatic button

No, this is why the Aston Martin DB series, Ferrari 550/575/612, Porsche 911 Turbo or even a GT-R exists - not quite a F40 or Zonda S, but is about as practical, and fast as you can go daily.

Not sure on this one, if you drove it every day, you would inevitably get used to it pretty quickly and the sense of occasion and blast of adrenalin you get from less frequent use of any fast car would surely wear off.

In terms of reliability, most would benefit from being driven everyday and as long as they are looked after then the use itself probably wouldn't be an issue. Keeping your licence might be tho!

Quite right, I do wonder if the reliability problems that these cars seem to have, occur due to a lack of use, Which can be bad for any car...

If I had the cash, I would use one every day, But TBH, If I had the cash, I wouldnt buy a ferrari or lambo, I think I Would go for an R35.

the service interval on the Ferrari Enzo is a hefty wallet-buster. routine services on Lamborghinis and recent Ferraris require pulling the engine (80's Ferraris had a removable firewall so you could access the belts and pulleys from inside the car).

Very few cars can be as quick as a tuned GT-R/R35, and still be a grocery-getter. Astons are gorgeous, incredible machines and I would seriously consider giving up a first-born child to own one, but supercar quickness means sprinting to 60mph in under 4 seconds, and not very many saloons can pull that off.

Honestly though guys,if you had the money for maintainance, why wouldn't you.
I live close to what can be called the rich area of montreal and guys with the lambos and astons and ferraris drive them every chance they get, these's one I presoally know who drove his gallardo thru the winter.
As a matter of fact both Lambo and Porsche have been running this seminar/event to show how practical their cars are for everyday/all year use, couldn't only be in North America only they must be doing it in Europe also.
