Japanese Spec Nissan GT-R ECU Cracked

This piece of news has not been picked up by the radar but here it is:
Luxvelocity : Japanese Spec Nissan GT-R ECU Cracked
COBB Tuning Blog » The ‘uncrackable’ GT-R (R35) ECU

A fully cracked ECU could mean that we can see 736kW+ GT-R's again, to Nissan's big despair

I don't think anyone ever said that the ECU was encrypted and uncrackable did they ?

I think what was really being said was that with all the sensors in place it wasn't going to be as easy as it was in the past......... I hardly think defeating a speed limiter is really "cracking" it either.

Exactly...removing the speed limiter ain't that big a deal as the euro spec cars have it removed anyway so it's obviously a "switch" somewhere?

Just to add, we have also cracked the ECU, removed the speed limiter, removed nissans 1.0bar boost limiter...and upped the boost to test.

Our re map gave
0.75bar 520hp/62kgm
0.9bar ???
1.1bar ??? (engine was fine, but clutchs had a problem, seems the 90kgm quoted by nissan is a little on the strong side)....maybe 80-85kgm is closer.

Will provide more details as and when I am allowed.

But we are also now going to be supplying 2 ECUs to the market....more details very soon.

1: speed cut with 1bar boost cut removed (future proofing) 520hp/62kgm
2: 0.9bar boost with the options listed in number

Price:TBC

85 kgm is around 615lbft. That's not bad for a stock clutch. Clutches aren't too expensive, the transmission itself is the real limiter.

Where does Nissan quote 90kgm?

615 Ft Lbs for a stock clutch...this this is definately over-engineered. Wow! I guess that gives them a little room to work with for the Spec V.

Just curious, what was your stock figures for power and torque? My friend's car with Mine's ECU only dynoed 497bhp with 0.9bar of boost. His stock figure was 476bhp.

i debating whether to get my car dynoed now i've fitted the mine's ecu. so many factors can massively affect the outcome: temp, humidity, altitude, equipment, mechanic skill etc etc.

mine's seems to have a very solid product, lots of installs (think it's around 100+) and not a single problem. that's got to be the most important factor.

Did you happen to get a baseline dyno? That would've been a nice comparison to have the car done before/after on the same dyno with near-the-same conditions (weather).

unfortunately no. it didn't really occur to me. i used to be a big believer in dynos but after a few years i decided the numbers don't really matter. as for tuning i always preferred to have a passenger on the track with a notebook computer do the tuning in realtime. dynos just don't give real world results. IMHO of course...

I'd agree with that in general. However dynos are useful in objectively determining differences made by individual (or groups of mods) if the car is dynoed prior to and after fitting on the same dyno (and conditions preferably).

Still, the 'bum' dyno is where it really counts and you seem pleased so I'm sure mines did a great job. Do you know details of their ECU remap? What do they actually do? Do they turn up the boost? Have there been reliability issues? I would imagine your warranty will not be honoured by nissan now is that correct?

they raised the boost ever so slightly but other than that i have no idea about the map. they keep it pretty quiet.

no reliability issues from their installs apparantly. very professional mob there.

yup, lost the warranty. hopefully not a big deal.
