R35 Gearbox Fault

I have a grey import GTR that has a gearbox fault showing on the dash, the car has gone into limp mode, Nissan NZ will not plug the consult III into it, is there another way to view the fault codes?, We are looking at getting a service computer from Japan to sort out some of the issues these cars are coming up with here in NZ as the local agents have been told not to touch them. Will any other service computer work on them?

one option is to courier the ecu to a japan performance center, or even mine's and get them to remove the limiter at the same time.

How old is your car? Did it have the recall done on the gearbox in Japan? Remember there being one around January... if not - this could be the issue. As I remember - the recall was about updating the software on the gearbox.

I called the US dealer selling Consult III.

It is only sold to Nissan approved dealers.

Does not handle GTR in current version.

Expected that it will need a hardware & software update to cater to the GTR, pricing not yet determined. And will include training.

Did you manage to get the unit outside of these restrictions?

I know at least two people that have Consult III in hand. Like anything in real life, there are rules, and like bones, they are made to be broken.

The Consult III can read the GT-R, I don't know if we checked, but I think the II can read the basics of the car too. There are some specific GT-R cards for the CAN and the Transmission.

Anything that can be made - can be backed up. Its not something that everyone will get their hands on for sure, but the right people end up with the right cards and things.

I have been trying hard to buy a consult III but no joy yet, we can communicate with the engine but not the trans with a scan tool that we currently have. At present the car is doing the following, When starting the computer checks the car and then the trans light starts flashing, the car will idle but it wont let you reeve the engine, when we put it into drive you can drive and the car will shift from 1st then to 3rd and then to 5th skipping 2nd and 4th. Anybody heard of this happening to other cars?

Sounds like a solenoid probelm of some sort (not knowing anything about the actual GT-R transmission) if you have the car on a hoist, check all the electrical connectors on the transmission!

Matt i'll pm you contact details of the only tuning shop in Japan to have the consult III and software. The only others to have it are NHPC, nismo and adenau. Someone has one in UK but obviously Japan is closer to NZ, and i believe a few guys there also want there tire warning lights turned off.

some early models needed a software upgrade. only 600kms is painful and gutting, you should have had that done in Japan before shipping

It's it simple download off the nissan site for a nissan dealer

CONSULT III Diagnostic Software Update Files (Version : 8.16)
$50.00 (USD)

In order to update the CONSULT III Software to the latest version, you'll need to download and install the CONSULT III Software update program file. Select the link below to purchase and download the update program file which will need to be installed prior to performing diagnostics.
