Even though there's no sharp turns or anything, I can't imagine how thrilling it must be to be ripping around a track like that with the huge banked turns

Not if the ZR1's current Ring times are anything to go by - it's 7:40 constant at the moment - old skool muscle car by the looks of it - fast in a straight line but nothing else although that will suit the USA a lot where traffic light races are more important than track races.

The first thing that comes to my Mind when I hear "Corvette" are leaf springs...

What, you mean suspension made out of recycled leaf-mold?

As far as I know Corvette have a special process which compacts the mold into little briquettes, under high pressure, changing the molecular structure in the process, then has an old maid run it through the mangle to form long thin strips, then chops them up, binds them together with sticky-back-plastic (and the top of a Fairy Liquid bottle), and, Voila! The rear suspension of the Z06 is born...

16/10/2008 - She's back from the dead! 389 at the wheels, and oodles of torque, at 1 bar.

actually, the Corvette uses transverse leaf springs made out of composites so that they flex differently at different points on the spring, as well as at different flex angles. They act as both springs and anti-roll bars and cost significantly more than coiled wire springs. The actual wheels move up and down via conventional multilinks.

re: the Ring, and real-world performance...it's all about the 4WD. I don't understand why only Nissan and Porsche know how to apply it properly with big-power cars.

Cost and profit is the answer to that one.

well, the Audi system has been around, but I'll tell ya, at least in the ur-quattros, they were GREAT when surfaces were slippery, but on grippy tarmac, they understeered like a complete nightmare.
