tiptronic issues r34 gtt

sorry guys, could find the correct location for gearbox issues so i posted in here:

i am looking at a motor which apparently has problems with its tiptronic box which does not allow the car to select 1st gear but will allow the car to drive off in 2nd gear but works ok when auto is in use, apparently this is acts like the car is in safe mode ? any body advise if this is a big/costly issue?
