Tomei Headgasket

I think I read somewhere the these are OK to be re used but I can't find the post again. The torque plate that I am using needs a headgasket to be used when machining and I would hate to waste a Tomei gasket to do this. I just want to make sure I will be able to use this gasket again to assemble the engine. Thanks in advance.

I'm cheap so I'd just re-use a stock headgasket for torque plate machining if its the same thickness as what you'll be running on your build. More experienced peole than myself might disagree, and you should take their advice over mine.

Thanks for your reply. I dont have the option of the original as it still in the car. The only gasket I might be able to get is the L-28 but I'm using a 1.0mm Tomei gasket.

I would be wary of using the same gasket when used for torque plate machining due to the small particles of metal that can get between the layers. If you leave a small bit of metal in there even after a good inspection and wash it could compromise the seal. Not worth doing it twice IMHO.

blackcossie, have you considered the Cosworth gasket?

RB26 Cosworth gasket

It uses a similar design to the Cosworth YB WRC gasket.

Yes I have and It was tops on my list. The deciding factors was Tomei is a head set with intake and exhaust and I already paid RHD. I could ask them for a refund I guess. What sizes are there (87mm x 1.0mm) and hows availability. I do hold Cossie stuff in very high regard but its hard to get up here.

The cutting fluid controls most of the fillings and washes them out the bottom of the cylinder. The fire ring seals between the plate and deck and when the gasket is torqued in to place the layers are sandwiched together so that even the finest particle cant get in between. I have since been in contact with a the manufacturer and they state there is no issue to re use MLS gaskets with there product.

Cosworth UK has these gaskets in stores. I'm not sure who the Cosworth distributors are in the UK, but if you contact Cosworth UK sales and speak to Jeremy LeFol, he can definitely point you in the right direction. Coordsport and TDI ring a bell though.
