a 12 month cycle doesnt sound too bad - look at some of the ferraris/lambos, with a 2 or even 3 year waiting list.!

As I've mentioned on other posts, this is a really simple problem. Nissan are a volume manufacturer, selling relatively cheap cars. They are simply not able to play with the premium manufacturers. It's not in their culture and certainly not in my dealer's.

My solution, having heard nothing from Hopkins, is to keep my M3 CSL, which I suspect will be a classic by the time a UK GTR lands! And bought a Lotus 2-Eleven to tide me over for summer track work. The dealer support from Lotus is stunning in comparison.

I've kept the GTR order, but I'm not expecting it before 2010, and I agree with whoever said that the enjoyment of ownership get's materially effected by this kind of strangely stupid behaviour - you really start to question whether it's worth the stress, especially as there will be new kit like a new M3 CSL available soon.

I have to put my two pennyworth in to this debate and say that apart from some confusion early on i.e. late 2007 as to who was actually looking after the sale of GTR's to joe public I have been pleased with everything Nissan has done. Ok i was lucky enough to be invited to Geneva, but at every stage I have been made to feel special and exclusive, heck I'm just an ordinary working class guy going through a big mid lifer, but Nissan have been great.
A lot of the secrecy I think has added to the kudos of the GTR, guys face it, it has been a little like xmas when you were ten again hasnt it waiting to see if you've got one, waiting to see what date it is you get one etc etc. The best is yet to come as well with the all the events Nissan has lined up.

Also the dealers I have found to be great as well, Richard Stokoe at Benfield Newcastle has phoned or emailed every time there has been a development and nothing has been too much trouble for him.

I have enjoyed the whole process so far with Nissan, enjoy the ride guys cos we are joining a very exclusive club -

Indeed exclusive, how many Zonda's, Carrera GT's, McClaren F1's do you see on the roads.

Answer: probably once in a lifetime. You guys would be able to keep up with all of them, and beat everything else the right side of £250,000!!

One very exclusive, very special club!!

does anyone know what the servicing bills may be here?! I've heard quotes of £500 per tyre, but know nothing about a normal service etc...
has anyone compared what they currently pay in countries that have already had them delivered?

I'm not so sure. I suspect most people here are buying this based on function , not branding/exclusivity/poor customer service etc.

Maybe, maybe not. Some of our customers are buying purely on exclusivity, and the chance to run a car for 6-12 months then selling the car on with little cost to them. Those people aren't on this forum though (correct me if I'm wrong anyone who is)

I guess most on here are buying because of the heritage of the Skyline, and because it's a monster!!

So would my Caterham but I wouldn't class that as exclusive, neither would I class my GT-R when I get it.

Don't seem to have been issued with my set of Nissan rose tinted spectacles that rustkinguk obviously got.

So far the ordering system has been hit and miss, I've handed over £3.5K, didn't get an invite to Geneva and have to wait till December 09 (until I'm informed of the inevitable shipping/technology delay) to get a car with Sat nav.

Fail to see what is exclusive about coughing up £55k? Hopefully I will when the car finally arrives but by then there are going to be another 300+ on the road in the UK already aren't there? So hardly Zonda, CGT, F1 rarity!

Still looking forward to getting one to add to the stable, but also have a nagging doubt about what market the car is truly aimed at, is it a 4 seater grand tourer?

Ho Hum

(Flame retardent suit on, maybe a glass half full type of guy at times, but I also ignore hype & clever marketing, full marks to Nissan on using internet forums on that score!)

Edited to add 70% of us so far are pretty fecked off with Nissan, hope they take note.

Errr, isn't it going to be more like 900+ by the time we get ours in December 2009? I thought the quota had been increased to 1000?

I view it as exclusive, in the sense that it allows people who couldn't afford a £200k hypercar to drive a car with that performance.

In my short life i've never had the opportunity to drive a production car that does 0-60 sub 4 seconds, and i bet i'll probably never get to drive an F1/Zonda etc.

Very little standard marketing mate, doesn't cost to join forums and create an urban legend. Just a thought.

Edited to add 900? Holy crap, like there were 900 orders ahead of me...hmmm

Actually, if the truth be told, I'm glad that Nissan's lack of information forced me to find this forum. It keeps me entertained on a daily basis, is far more informative, detailed and thought-provoking than any official correspondence could ever be, it helps pass the time until delivery, and it's nice to feel part of a community.

Group hug everyone?
