Help! - I'm in a quandary...
I have reached a crossroads where I have to make a decision about my GT-R order (silver premium with nav for Sept '09 delivery)...
Firstly I must say, that as a lifelong petrolhead I am as excited as anyone about the prospect of this incredible car, and hanging on every word from this site and any review I can lay my hands on. However, this will not be car bought with loose change in my pocket - it would be a stretch financially and I have to be absolutely sure before I comit. There are a couple of nagging doubts... I am slightly concerned that the drive will not be as 'interactive' as I would like. To illustrate, I loved my Caterhams, 964, Boxster S, M3 SMG and Maserati 4200, but my '98 Impreza STi left me cold despite its ability. Is the GT-R simply too accomplished?? Aside from the purchase cost (a bargain for what you get of course) the running costs scare me. With petrol prices shooting up, do I want a daily driver that does <15mpg with fuel at >£1.50 per litre (surely likely by the end of next year)? Tyres at £500 a pop? £450 tax pa? I was fairly satisfied that the residuals would be excellent and support the purchase decision, but in the current climate I'm not so sure... I would absolutely love to throw a GT-R round a track (I'm a race license holder btw), but would I want to do it in my own £55k car? Even assuming you kept it shiny side up, brakes and tyres would wear quickly in such a heavy machine (evo magazine reported that the GT-R left black lines around every corner). So we have the contradiction of a car so capable that it would be reckless to sample anywhere near all of its ability on the road, but one which I would be too worried about taking to a circuit...? It is such a shame that I have to make a decision before driving (or even seeing!) the car. This makes it all the more difficult... Your thoughts please. I know this all sounds negative, but I'm very open to being persuaded to say 'stuff it - you only live once!' |

I'm having to lend my girlfriend to the Bank Manager for a week to pay for this car as i'm not selling my other cars! 100% worth it plus I get a week of no grief! Bonus.
Toys, if you don't buy the car you will regret it for sure! |

i see where you're coming from but you will prob live to regret not getting the GTR, and hopefully residuals will hold up well too, so you can always sell after a few months if you reall wanted to........

Life Is No Dress Rehearsal .....
My Mum told me that I will have to save very hard to purchase my GTR (Sept 09 delivery) and sell my Beautiful EVO 1X to add funds to the pot. A big decision indeed plus as stated the cost of running it .....a tad scarey but Im sticking with my Mums advice Life is No Dress Rehearsal CJ |

I knew I would get these kind of replies here... what else did I expect from a bunch of GT-R nuts!As soon as I see one on the road I just know I would regret cancelling, and feel gutted that I didn't grab the bull by the horns. Now, we are all confident about those residuals aren't we? (collective finger crossing and general bigging-up will help I'm sure!) Mark |

am pretty confident that if you get an early car, drive it for a cxouple of months then really dont like it you'll get back at least what you paid for it - there's confidence for you

slightly better position than some delivery first quarter of 2010(what ever that means)! Wife won't sleep with bank manager so i am going to save very hard and could include downsize house, but with the kids away its easier, you only live once. As for being too efficent, how can it be? It is at the forefront of tecnology and will develop again in the futre, my advice go fo it

I'm in exactly the same position as you. I've decided to go for it. Again, whats the worst case scenario? - sell after a few months and lose 5k?. I'm banking on the 'make a decision nearer the time'. Surely the year of build-up and anticipation with all the pre-order events and then collecting a brand new one is worth that risk?.

To be honest, the 5K is a figure that i'm using just to persuade me that this really is a safe bet. Thats the figure that I feel I could lose and still come away with happy with the overall experience. Losing any more would start to counter the events and anticipation and the like. Losing less makes it more of a bonus!
