Spot on my friend. I'd love to take some folk I see ranting about trucks out for a day, I am on motorways now and then, but also am through towns and villages and up lanes to stores, b-roads in the highlands of Scotland, single track roads with very few passing places while driving a full size artic etc. They'll always say they would be of the same opinion if they came out, but I bet 0% would go home that night and not think, you know, they were right actually, they do the best they can* Was down to campbeltown on Sunday there, and the amount of crazy stuff I saw car drivers and bikers doing beggered belief, sunny sunday syndrome was out in force and numerous times I had to anchor it to avoid oncoming cars overtaking, or to let people passing me in when they weren't making it otherwise...and then there was the herd of cows that had got out of a field lol, that braking session had the trailer jiggling a bit, as well as my ass puckering as I watched it start to slip out to the right in the mirror, all ok though I was able get off the brakes and it settled in again. It's a whole different world of driving that tha majority will never appreciate. *- exceptions to every rule obviously and there are a good few HGV drivers that drag us all down with them Ross Last edited by Ross9; 15th July 2008 at 04:40 PM. |

Agree with Kingsley.
And also regarding lorry drivers. I drive a white van, not saying its hard or anything but you have to be a bit more aware of the size. So ALL DUE REPSECT given to lorry drivers. And I'd also love to go out in one for a day lol |

Kingsley's identified #1 for me. Typically Micra Driver (MD) too. They've been happily driving along @50mph tail-gating behind a heavily laden lorry for 30+miles. You're pushing on at 69.995. There's no one behind you for absolutely miles and miles and miles. There's 2 vehicles ahead both travelling well below max for the road/conditions. You're practically level with Micra's rear bumper and WHAM! Out she pops without thought or indication forcing you to scrub off the closing speed. Of course, I'm sure most people have already atuned themselves to MDs and so high alert is instantly set as soon as you see the hated "bubble". It still grates hugely even though you anticipate the unexpected, and all the while the MD is TOTALLY unaware of any of this "excitement". They can sit happily in the knowledge theirs is a world of low insurance and low taxation.
My blood is boiling at the thought coz it used to happen practically every day (occasionally you could substitute MD for Metro Driver or other small cheap car driven by OLDER people or the 40-40 brigade (40 on the motorways and 40 through villages etc)) |

soooo, thats what they bloody are, micra drivers.
always wondered what that was following me down the roads for miles, and miles, and miles. their cousins must be the metro drivers. they hover in front of me, somewhere between 54-58 mph, when they settle at a steady 54, i pull out too overtake, get my 50 ft long truck, 2/3's of the way past them, and slowly their speed creeps up to 59, undertaking me, leaving me stranded, in the middle, or outside lane, holding up all the other motorists stuck behind me, until i can pull back in. its so frustrating. |

That's the ones Neil, they are normally both in front and behind artics. The one in front doing 57mph and they are gripping the wheel, white with the terror of the speed. The trailing one just hasn't got the bottle to overtake the artic and besides because they're so close up the @r$3 of the trailer they have no idea what is in front so they normally wait until I'm level with their rear bumper before suddenly getting all adventurous and pulling out in a panic.
Mook, you can balance the argument then Micra-Metro-Man. In all honesty I drove my neighbour's Micra (auto too!) and around town is was fantastic and on nat speed dual carriage ways max speed was no problem either. HOWEVER, it really only appeals to a certain demographic, and surely you cannot deny that! I still find it mildly humerous that the aging population that took so readily to the bubble are finding new homes in he latest incarnation which I think is a genuinely funky design. Still 95% of them drive like the Simpson's Moleman (no relation to this forum's resident of course). Perhaps you could place "Mookistar" in sizeable letters on the rear and front and then I will happily treat you as a normal non-MD! But I may just take avoiding action in case the evil soul of the Micra had infected you too ![]() |

Lets go a Stafford huntin !!! I feckin hate lorry drivers, they're all fat sweety ginsters munchin paedos lookin for big bear in a truckstop oooop north, incapable of walking 5 yards without burying at least half their forarm up their back passage for a rummage and a scratch as they waddle their way across the forecourt ready to disengorge their anal tract in the loo Im unwittingly about to use 2 minutes later !!! Half the times they're doing 67mph two inches off my bumper as we head toward traffic resolute in their desire to never use the brakes for fear of wasting their precious fuel, the other half of the time they are side by side with Eddie feckin Stobarts latest biologically enhanced cabbage for 17miles once again with the pathetic excuse that they are jealously protecting their fuel at the cost to the rest of us who all end up poisining an area the size of Peru when we finally get to go past these road hogs and inevitably put our foot down in a celebration of the fact that we unlike aforementioned trucker managed to get at least one GCSE and dont end up having to haul crap up and down the motorway network of europe in order to never see our kids grow up. Other than that I luv 'em !! ![]() |

sorry mook, i was generalising ![]() jensen, your spot on. they are also the ones that trundle down the slip road, at 40-50 mph, and approx 30 feet from the end of the sliproad, dive in panic, too the safety of the middle lane, where they stay at 48mph, until 50feet before their exit. bladerider. so your my bloody stalker, always wondered who that was, following me round, monitoring my daily habits. was gonna come and ask ya, but didn't think you'd understand neanderthal ![]() |

seen this lux, defies belief eh!
just goes too show, not all truck drivers are as talented as me ![]() have you buy anychance, seen the clip on there, of the accident in italy, a polish truck, hits a camper van, and then crosses the central reservation, hitting 2 cars, and 2 wagons, head on??? causing a massive fireball. 8 dead. shows how dangerous, one of these can be, when it all goes wrong. the general, feeling on accident in italy, was the polish driver comitted suicide. if this is true, why, oh why, did he do it in this matter? horrific stuff. |
