matty, one thing Alex does do, and he will reply no doubt, are spray waxes. Spray onto your rinsed wet car, then microfirbe towel dry before buffing to a shine.

First off - buy some Duragloss wash from him. Fantastic product.
Second - when rinsing, have a constant flow from the hose - just trickling over the car. Third - when drying, spray some quick detailer on the damp car and use a decent drying towel. Must admit, when it's really hot / sunny, I tend to wash and dry a panel at a time. Can be tedious, but you generally get a better result. All should help - but I'm sure Alex has some additional / better advice. |

I'd certainly recommend the Duagloss though. Used it a couple of times on mine and family members cars and been seriously impressed with it. I tend to pre-wash my car using Hyperwash, then rinse that off, then wash it with Duragloss, rinse that, etc. Didn't need to use any QD when drying the car after the Duragloss - just a perfect finish. Also done in direct sunlight (thought it would be a good test for the product). Edited to add: The Duragloss is - "Duragloss 901 Car Wash Concentrate". |

Matt, try avoid washing your car in the sun. Where you can wash your car in the shade. Streak marks are caused I think from where the water has allowed to dry.
I would use a quick detailer to help aid drying.. - Rinse panel (or use a pre-wash such as Meguairs Hyperwash/ Supa Snow Foam through a Gilmour or foam gun) - Wash panel (use two bucket method, and wash panel with mitt/sponge in straight lines) - Rinse panel removing all shampoo - A mist of quick detailer and wipe dry with a microfibre drying towel..** And job done as far as a basic wash goes.. **Quick detailer - From what Alex has to offer I would definitely either try out Duragloss 951 or Meguiars' Last Touch which represents excellent value for money. Both are awesome to use with great results. (I currently use Field Glaze on my R34!) Drying towel - I would be inclined to go for the Aquatouch FBZ - brilliant drying to be had from this towel. Just dont let the panels dry of their own accord! And certainly not in the sun lol!! |

Morning Matty, Sorry, hayfever from hell at the mo hence I've not been on much yesterday.
Washing technique in the sun I do the same as Daz & Kadir. It's a bit longer but I find the best way to get no spots or streaks....... With the soapy water, wash one panel at a time carefully starting from the top working down. So, wash the roof first, quick rinse then dry. Then I do the windows and pillars, wash, rinse and dry. Then finally work round the lower panels one or two at a time. Rinse the mitt every few strokes so as not to push any dirt around and in warmer weather I use cold water with the shampoo as it won't dry as quickly as hot water although cleaning ability is slightly better with warmer water. When people refer to the 'Two Bucket Method' it means one bucket with your sudsy water in and a second with plain water in for cleaning your mitt. The soapy water stays clean and you'll see just how dirty the other bucket of water gets when you rinse the mitt out. My top selling shampoo at the mo is the Duragloss 901 Car Wash Concentrate closely followed by the Finish Kare 1016 Wash N Wax and the Meguiars Hyperwash. The Duragloss 901 It's very lubricated and works well. Drying towels I either use the Aquatouch Large FBZ or the thicker Duragloss Plush Drying Towel. As above, in warmer weather it's also good to spray a mist od Quick Detailer onto the damp panel before drying... This helps minimise any further water spotting and also helps disperse water quicker as well as add a little added shine. Meguiars Last Touch is popular as it comes as a gallon and waters down to two gallons for just under 20 quid. If you want one that also leaves a little protection then I'd go for my own Show Detailer or something like Finish Kare 425 Quick Detailer or Duragloss 951 Aquawax.

This stuff is the nuts (Finish Kare 425 Quick Detailer), also trying adding some detailer to the bucket of shampoo, what ive noticed it dont allow the water to stay on the panel as much and dry up. Also when you mix the Finish kare detailer with Hyperwash it smells like Davidoff Coolwater...lol.
Out of all the detailers i have used, Finish Kare 425 Quick Detailer is the best for me by far.

I'm gonna need some Shampoo, some wax, a drying towel thingy and a wax on and wax off cloth thing (can you tell I don't know much about cleaning my car!)
Considering its probably never been done (and can it be done by an amature?) should I clay the car as well? I'm going to be putting it under one of the R34 car covers from the shop once its done! Cheers |

PM sent Dale
.Claying is worth a go and very easy. Wash and dry the car. Spray a mist of detail spray onto one panle or a part of a larger panel. Gently rub the clay over the paint kneading the bar every few wipes to keep a clean surface. Once you've done that section, simply wipe dry with a cloth and feel the smoooooothness
