Lexus IS200 vs Honda Accord

I'm in two minds of both cars,as need to get something abit more sensible so the skyline "may" be up for sale

I'm assuming people have driven both cars, the accord that i'm referring to the 54 plate ones onwards, the new shape basically

good things and bad things of both cars really if anyone has comments, what are they like daily etc as the skyline is current daily and i just can't justify spending 60% of wages a month on petrol (i work part time, student still)

there are a few IS200's for sale starting around £2500,these obviously have higher mileage, what are there engines like, anythign to look out for etc etc
and just randomly mpgs on both cars?

i can get the IS200 without selling the skyline, but to get the accord i'd need to sell the skyline as they're £5500 upwards

thanks

Funnily enough I'm looking at one of these as a daily driver.

The MPG on an IS is shocking where as an Accord 2.0 Ivtec will get you mid 30's

Both are reliable but I would have thought the extra insurance, RT on the IS would obliterate the extra 5 - 10 mpg over the Skyline.

Go for the Accord - Actually a damn fun car with a good chassis

to make it a bit more interesting, the mercedes E Class has now popped into my head as we had one before for years and it was really nice
to get the accord i need to sell the skyline, and i've decided i won't sell the skyline as i love it to much!

I have an 07 Accord 2.0 ivtec, gets average mpg of 32 and I do tend to boot it more often than not, mine is a quite well specced executive model with the voice activated averything, heated leather etc and I absolutley love it to bits, its not fast, but it is adequate, it handles well, and is extremely comfy and quiet, the only tinge of dissapointment is that you dont get that vtec surge anymore, still I can live with it.

I have an 08 IS250 which gets about 26mpg average. I've had x4 Lexiiii now and they're all shocking for fuel economy mate, it's not what they're about at all.

Even the IS220d was pants, that used to average about 31-33mpg.

thats good news,as i'm not sure yet on getting a petrol or diesel yet, petrol has LPG while diesel has bio fuels....
another thing i just realised is the new car tax,so i'm guessing it's going to have to be something before the 51 plate era as i can't spend that much on car tax!

and i want it an auto, fed up of the clutch in traffic!

I wasn't overly impressed with the IS 220d engine, ever so slightly agricultural.

Would have to be the I6 petrol for me

Yep I'd agree with this totally.

I found it soooo laggy with only 1K RPM of usable power/torque. I also found it very clattery and uncivilised which you wouldnt normally expect from a Lexus.

I'd defo recommend you try test driving one before you part with any cash.

I guess the other alternative would be the Toyota Altezza with the 2.0 Beams 4 pot.

Mazda 6, maybe ?

Over the two I'd choose Honda as it does better MPG, nothing more as I like IS looks more and it's got crispier engine.

mazda 6 just doesn't appeal to me in that way compared to the other cars for some reason
