A friend's R32 has over 700whp (in 2wd) with one on his RB30 with 1.8 bar and Av gas so 800bhp+ is def possible in some cases.
There's alot more to making the power than just the turbo. Rob

There's alot more to getting 700hp + from a motor than just bolting on a TO4z so there may be other differences also. Rob

It might be because they are closer to the equator ,which effectively means they are steeper , I guess \ |

If you're using an RB30 you'll definately want the 1.0 housing I would have thought. I had the 0.96 housing on an RB28 and it was too small resulting in compressor surge problems. That's fine for an RB26, but on a larger capacity I would go the next size up.
I would be surprised if you saw more than 650bhp with the 0.96 housing, at sensible EGT's anyway, and with the larger housing you'd probably see 680-700 maybe. What are you revving upto? Cheers Nito ps. Mine gave 580 at the hubs with a T04Z (0.96) on an RB28, pump gas, 1.6 boost iirc, 507lbs/ft on a dynapack. It's less than I wanted and wouldn't give anymore. It also had compressor surge issues when it was retuned for higher power. Basically the cams were being overwhelmed with boost before they'd fully opened (only in 6th gear). V-cam would have helped this I'm sure, but ultimately, I'd have gone for the larger housing which would have run cooler EGT's. And I was considering a T51 Kai BB ![]()

Looking for the power mainly in the mid-range rather than the top end. Going for the bigger housing 1.0 will mean compensating for less power in the midrange to have more power at the top-end. Going keep the revs below 8250rpm??
P.S. The T51 Kai BB is the next step. |

How early do you want your power! Here's mine RB28, T04Z, 1.7bar and 272 10.2mm cams in/ex 1.2mm gasket.
(.81 Housing I believe, not 0.96, didn't know a .96 was available. Sorry!) ![]() Cheers Nito

Resurrecting this thread. Tried the T04z. What's the difference in the smaller T51 as opposed to the smaller Garrett GT42R, which one shall I try next?? or should I just go for the larger one's, T51 SPL and the Garrett equivalent????? everything else on the RB30 is still the same spec.

TO4Z would be responsive but maybe not enough top end power if you get used to it.
We had step 3 2.8L TO4Z with V-cam Pro had good torque from low rev. sorry we don't have our own vid Useage is somewhat different from when we had so please don't comment . I think you should make your aim/goal (Power/torque:balance) first than choose a turbine. Nice vid Kevin-----just watched again. What you need is a "SEAT" so you don't need dance all over the cockpit. Just a "seat" will probably give you 2sec better lap time just looking at vid. I thought only owner of UAE don't use clutch (maybe they never use) |

I beleave a GT4094 is a nice allround turbo for the RB30.
Rockabilly made 700bhp and just under 600lb @ 2bar. That was with a rev limit around 7000rpm. He is/was using a 1.02 housing from memory. He was boosting low down (3000rpm) and had a very very good curve right up to 7000rpm. His power was somethink like 450bhp by 4000rpm and 450lbs at the same. Im in this predicament for next year when I go RB30. Ill have a light weight R32 and Im just wondering if the 700+bhp and 600lb will make the car to undrivable! |

The T04z 0.96 A/R was giving me at 1.7bar 696bhp and if I remember correctly about 598lb of torque. Turbo was making boost at 2700rpm. Changing to the GT4094R isn't going to be a big difference. However, changing to the GT4202R 1.01 A/R will be.......
