I sent a set of used wheels + tyres/tires from Japan to the UK on 14th May.
After a good six weeks, yesterday, three (3) of them were delivered. OK, fine, have patience, but it's a bit nerve-wracking. The tracker shows they were in the customs clearance place in Coventry at 5:02 pm on the 30th June. Does this mean that someone downed tools at precisely 5 pm, leaving the last wheel/tyre in mid-movement??? Grrrrrr......Fingers crossed this ends just as a mini rant pretty damn quickly................ COMMON SENSE..................... WHERE ARE YOU?????????? ![]()

Yes maybe the boat was full
and the extra weight off that 4th rim would make it sink. It will probably get where it needs to be in the end but who knows when and how it will look when it does... I hate the postal services off today, they don't seem to care about sending things properly anymore ![]()

Well, customs has just been in contact, and they want duty paid on the fourth wheel...
...quite clever I suppose as they know the customer should be desperate to get that last wheel! ![]() (They are 7-8 yr old old rims, with half worn tyres on them, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....)

These wheels are from me to me, for my own personal use. Grrrrrrrrr...
I bought them new years ago. I pay 60 quid each extra to ship them, and now HM Customs Service (Service, ha!) wants to charge me again??? WTF? I can see what's coming now. I figured they were worth 50 GBP each, so I insured them for 20,000 JPY, or 100 quid, just in case they got lost. The Post Office wrote 20,000 JPY each on the shipping papers. Two days later, the Japanese PO told me the courier had made a mistake and the wheels could not be insured. Thay paid back my payment. The wheels went to the UK completely uninsured. But I can see customs now wanting to charge me based on the completely fictitious figure of 100 quid for a used wheel and tyre/tire... :headbang: |

I think you may have to pay as you are still a resident in Japan and not moving permanently to the UK. I think in the case of a move/removal from Japan to the UK you wouldn't pay anything.
I kind of know someone who works for JTB Cargo in Tokyo, I could ask this if you want a confirmation.

No, it's fine. Please don't involve anyone else. Customs probably make it up as they go along, and they get it right maybe 30% of the time. (?)
Everything will be OK. I was just blowing off steam! Taking a deep breath now.... HOLD...

Maybe we should start a thread on what kind of stress balls people have in their office...

End of rant, sort of.
Having kept back one of the four wheels since Monday, they now want 25 quid for it. WTF? And we can have it early next week some time... 's a funny old world, but thanks guys for small mercies! |
