valve guide poll
just another fact-finding thread to try and collect some empirical data...
btw, choice 3 regards losing an engine due to factory-installed OEM guides failing.

I had uprated guides in mine, engine was taken out and all but one of the guides had cracked, lucky no damage was done. Would of made a mess at 2bar boost up the drag stip. Thought while engine was out would refresh bottom end, found two of my main bearing knackered, think the clearences were too tight. Bring on the 2.8 stroker now Work in progress |

I made mine from bronze alloy.
The stock guides are sintered iron which is self lubricating but brittle. Bronze is self lubricating and not brittle. It's a no brainer really.

When you lift the valve higher you get more valve rock in the guide iron ones
tend to crack because of this thats why you need to use bronze to eliminate this from happening. thanks andy@amt |

RB's don't usually break intake guides but exhaust sides are another story. You should make the poll so that you can tick two options.
I.e. I've never had a guide fail but I've upgraded for the new engine and they're fine. |
