I sold my MINT VT for £2200 and that was one of the tidiest i have seen to date, SiR's are a lot of money though Corolla Gti's arent too bad , but i think a CRX 16v would be better for the money |

Still not a hot hatch so perhaps one of these would be interesting: Auto Trader UK - NISSAN SUNNY 2.0 GTi 16v I had a very similar car. They are very tough and the engine is brilliant. Could really do with some lower profile wheels (15s or 16s) and some better springs/dampers but many GTIR parts can be used so availability is good. |

Ive picked up a few bargains over the years
The best one ever has to be a nissan cherry turbo I bought for £90 - it was a total rust bucket but i kept it going for another year and the engine was indestructable no matter how hard i thrashed it A close second was an XR4i i bought for £190 and the guy selling thought the engine was knackered coz it was leaking loads of oil - all i did was change the rocker gaskets and it was fine again - I ran that car for a year also before selling it for £500 - it was mint My worst mistake was an Isuzu Piazza Turbo - I have never seen a car go so rusty so fast - I bought it as a project but never did get it road legal it was just too far gone, Id still love to have a drive of one of those one day |

+1 here for the Starlet Turbo. Owned one back when I was 19 (1.3 16v CT9 Turbo) and it was a rocket.
Stuck some coilovers on it, few external engine upgrades and it was a fair bit faster than my mates Pug 205 1.9 GTI (probably at the time the cleanest 205 in the country with 15k miles on it and some Webber carbs) When I get home I'll dig out some old photos of it for nostalgia.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. This thread has been a real eye-opener as there are many cars I wouldn't have considered, or just hadn't even heard of!
I'm going to aim for something naturally aspirated that I can start doing work to if anything goes wrong. I'm going to keep away from turbo charged cars until I've saved enough cash for a 600bhp R32 ![]()

how about a metro GTi?? 1.4 and you'd get one for probably less than £700!!!! i had one years ago, Pirellis and i took some of the fluid suspension out..... twas like a go-kart and stuck to the ground amazingly...... just a shame it was a rover, hahahahaha
dunno if you'd get a half decent one nowadays though, bet there all scrapped *edit* heres one, with a 1.6 engine in!!! 1991 ROVER METRO GTI WHITE on eBay, also, Rover MG, Cars, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 02-Aug-08 19:29:22 BST)

Wow, were can i get a VT for £300 I just sold a SIR EF9 a couple of months ago for £3300 and no for a fact that you cant get a OKish VT that doesnt need an arm and leg spending on it for less than £1k. (Iv had a couple, and theres some on ebay all over a grand). A ED7 1.6 16v box shape civic could be a nice car for under a grand. |

But they are likely to exist once someone has wrecked it enough, unlike being able to import and get legal a Starlet turbo for under 1k, lol ![]() |

NIssan Sunny 2.0 16V GTi, I had one and it was a corker - even Clarkson liked the way it drove and for a man who hates all things Sunny that is saying something!
0-60mph was something like 7.8 seconds and now they can be had for buttons but make sure you don't get the 14 inch std rims as they are much too small, 15' wheels drive the best on it and it is a great handler and very predictable - brakes are a wee bit weak under heavy driving but the right pads help a great deal. 1993 Nissan Sunny Reviews - Carsurvey.org Quote:
