Exedy twinplate clutch...can the plates be skimed?
I have a twinplate Exedy and I bought a pair of new clutch pads/liners.....but in taking it to my gearbox guy he said I would need to get the plates skimed.
Now this is where the problem lies....No one thinks it can be done as the clutch wouldn't work properly due to add up of approx a mm of meat taken of the plates. Has anyone had this done with any problems? |

Usually if they are toast you buy new ones when you buy the new clutch plates.
Does the gearbox guy say it can be done ? I would have to see them , but could you not surface grind them ? Is it nismo or os type ?

It looks like a nismo one.
It is in very good nick, but has little high spots here and there. Have you every replaced the pads in yours Glenn? Gearbox guy went round a couple of clutch places and no body wanted to know about it! Shown are some pics....The pad set is the old one, I sprung for a brand new set before being told I should skim the plates. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Yep I put new clutch plates in mine when I did the gearbox swap, Soichi got he plates for me, the rest of the clutch was fine.
I think about $600 for the two plates. Photo 2 and 3 are clutch plates, theres plates that go in between those , Is that what you want to machine ? Show me a pcx of the intermediate plates

Again, you might have a different idea of "little high spots" compared to me. Could you show it to RE sinclair or someonme down there ?
