Cool R.I.P.Snarling RB30 Engine Build Underway...

Finally, i have pulled my finger out and decided to document the fantastic build up of my R.I.P.S RB30 Full Engine package. The basic package will consist of the following ingrediants but the recipe will no doubt change along the way as I have a habit of changing my mind (on a daily basis) lol

RB30 block lovingly prepped by Rob @ R.I.P.S
CNC Billet Main Caps
Billet Block Brace
4WD adapter plate
RIPS Custom Sump

Build up pictures to follow... drip... drip....

First up...

The forged rod set is carefully selected, marked up and blueprinted to ensure all six rods are within a given tolerance of each other in terms of weight, small end sizes and big end sizes.

out of interest mate, how comes you went for a tuner in NZ over the many established tuners in the UK?

I chose the tuner based on a few things, 1. reputation 2. quality of service and 3. value for money. Granted the first two points can be had with tuners in the UK but point 3 they cant compete with. You only need to cost up a particular part of a build for example the head with UK tuners and compare the same with RIPS and the results will speak for themselves.

We are doing just the engine for Conrad and shipping is about 200 pound.

For a re-power or a job that involves fuel system, intercooler, plumbing, exhaust and custom work etc we have found there is great savings to be had by sending the car, when you add up what some guys spend on their cars and how long they sometimes have to wait, then compare that with the quality they can get here (I'm not saying UK tuners can't deleiver good quality), the fact that the whole thing can be customised, in extreeme detail if required, every step of the way to suit the customer and cost basicly the same as getting "the same old bolt ons" from Japan, the 900 pound each way for shipping the car soon becomes very inexpensive.

We have proven results making more power/torque at less boost than pretty much anyone and I think the UK guys who have said that "Oh yeah, but on our dyno's your cars won't measure as much power or they won't run as quick or have the mph to back up your NZ results/claims" have all been silenced once and for all with the Drag-r.

Our street engines at lower boost can be built to make almost identicle power to the top pro GTR engines in the UK.

Rob

Peter, the one you know about was just an RB30 short motor and a collection of parts, most of which were sold off separately

This is a complete RB30 engine, race spec head, ss valves, tomei buckets, cams, pullies, springs & retainers

Turbo setup will probably be HKS single....

You got that right mate, I much prefer the 30 over any other RB engine. I've only driven mid power RB26 & 30's but the 30 does it for me everytime. The low down grunt makes all the difference

When i finally get a GT-R i'l be putting my RB30 in it straight away

We've had the RB30 for quite a long time. I mean, for us in Oz to buy a complete RB30 motor out of a VL commodore (holden) is only $100 - $200 in the general ads of the paper. We have a bulk of them lying around. You can buy them cheap put some rods pistons and clean up the crank, use a crank dampener and put a 26 head on and you'll have 600hp at the tyres all day long. Rob knows what he is doing as he specialises in developing the motors. We are currently building one for an R33 GTR with a T88H-38GK. The only issue with the RB30 is to make it sit correct as the block is taller making the rockers sit close to the bonnet. Other than that piece of piss and great power band.
