lol, i had to get my synchro replaced a few weeks back on my stage one R33 GTR. 3rd to 4th was crunching on high rpm change ups (weird huh?) so sent it to get fixed.
At the same time i ordered some Redline Shockproof Lightweight box oil to put in.

the box has been problem free for approx and super smooth for the 1k miles ive done since. I too find the car doesnt like being put into first when cold but i find if i engage reverse before trying first it goes in problem free

Has anyone tried redline MT90 which I would like to try in a r33 vspec gearbox with low Ks The american website reckons lightwieght shockproof is for worn out boxes and is not real good on newer synchros.
They have a lsd gear oil redline 75W90 GL5+ for both diffs which is what the manual specifies almost. (85W90 front and 80W90 rear)
Redline is by all accounts the good gear any comments on the above would be appreciated

3rd to 4th on a 97 V Spec a bit notchy but I can live with it. Had a GTST which was the same so I put some Lucas Additive in it which is advertisied as a revitaliser, seemed to cure it it but it was a bit thick and you had to sueeze the bottle like beggery to get it in and at £36 a bottle it wasn't cheap.

I've got a tricky 4th gear which I've learned to completely avoid crunching by: from 3rd to 4th, granny-shifting, or going into neutral, letting go briefly of the shifter, then snicking it into 4th. I rarely crunch 4th, even on all out pulls.

From 5th to 4th, a mild double-clutch does the trick. blip the throttle a little (not too much or it'll again crunch), and slide it in. I cannot shift from 5th to 4th normally, unless I wait about five seconds in neutral.

Am using HKS transmission oil, which takes a bit of warming up. But combined with the Nismo solid shifter, I like the feel of my transmission very much.

to correctly heel'n'toe you must double declutch

when you blip the throttle you should be in neutral, clutch released
