Thanks for your point of view Tony

But, i still have to ask....

I have seen 3-4 RB26 engines here in Norway been on the rolling road, and dynapak, all of them have shown good / safe fueling + low exhaust temps. Almost every engine has blown due to detonation. Its almost the same cylinders on every engine.

Also on the Fc-Datalogit yahoo newsgroup there are several people reporting ignition scatter at high revs.

I have been tuning engines for some time now, and ALWAYS been recommended to use a crank trigger. Thats why i went for that kind of setup on my car. Plus i figured out how to wire up the AETSSA system. Id rather spend some time wiring up a standalone ecu, than rebuild my engine due to ignition scatter.

Again... thanks for your input, good to see some of the well experienced guys give us some info...

Asim...

Somebody able to confirm (rather than speculate) that with healthy hardware, there is no fundamental issue with the nissan CAS, assuming the ECU knows what to do with it.

Do you mean by "almost the same cylinder".

I have told you what I have found. I have no doubt that the Motec and Autronic stand alone units are very good. The HKS V-Pro can be run stand alone.

Beleive me the Pro is well in front of the Apexi unit but is only as good as the map put into it.
There are many reasons for detonation, not neccessarily timing scatter.

I agree that a crank mounted pick up is probably better, but not worth getting paranoid about.

If you have been tuning engines for some time, just use your experience and get on and do it.

What i mean is, it has been the same cylinder on 2 engines that i have examined. and the same cylinders on other engines with the same problem.

I totally agree, the HKS is a good ecu, the problem is that only the authorized garage can map it, kinda hard when you live in Norway, to either travel for 9hours to north Norway or travel to UK each time you want to make some changes to the setup.

In my honest opinion it isn't always about the ecu, its about who can map it, or what you can do your self....

Update? It's hard to get a word in on here.

I've ordered Wiseco 87mm pistons and new shells. Although the sheels look ok, for the price, i might just as well change them. The pistons should be here any day now. Dans sorted out the coating for the pistons. As soon as they are back with me, I can get the block rebored and then it's spanners out time again.

Something I have discovered, I was running with a compression ratio os 8.4:1, which might explain some of my issues.

What was your planned compression ratio?

It's not my choice, its just what the pistons are.
