My new H-beam "junk" eagle rods!!

After discussing this a lot with a few friends / engine builder here in Norway, and as a result of this thread, i went ahead and ordered a set of Eagle H-beam "junk" rods from ebay.

I paid 350usd + shipping for 6x h-beam rods, including ARP2000 bolts.

When i picked up the package from the post office and opened it, i got VERY surprised when i looked at them. Have a look at the pic:

Look at the print on them!!

What i cant understand is, i ordered a set of Eagle rods, and i got a set of Tomei rods. I compared them to a set of tomei rods, and they are the same!!

2 hole entry for lubrication of the piston bolt and everything.

After this i have come to the following conclusion.... either they sent me the wrong set of rods... or both tomei and eagle rods are made at the same factory in China called Cat Power!

These rods are the same length as stock 121.5mm, they also do a set of 119.5mm rods, and i believe that's the length of the 2.8 stroker kit rods from Tomei.

What do you guys think??

All this for 350usd.... thats a kick in the nuts for the non-believers

Nothing to do with luck mate.

I think (disclaimer: my personal opinion) that all these rods are made at the same factory!

I bought mine from this ebay seller.

Hahaha just goes to show the premium we pay for some names!!!

Like you say they must be made at the same factory, and then a name printed on them. But something due to supply/stock/demand has maybe made Eagle pack Tomei rods in their own boxes.

Those are Tomei rods, the eagles don't have the 2 holes in the small end or the 'flanging' around the centre of the big end, and have a different profile from the big end into the beam.

You've been lucky and have been sent a set of Tomei rods.

If there is no difference, I offer to buy you a set of eagle rods and do a swap!!

I think you misunderstood me, im not saying they are identical, maybe they are, i dont have a set of eagle rod to compare with.

What im saying is that they most likely are made at the same factory, and most likely with the same steel.

I dont think they would send me a set of tomei rods if they were out of stock with the Eagle rods. Tomei rods cost almost 3x than what i paid, perhaps more.

If you have any pics it would definitely be interesting to see.

It's great news for everybody if you can show that the rods are the same as Tomei and 1/3 of the price!!

I would have to take the engine to bits to get them sorry

They didn't have the tomei markings on them though....

When in China I came across a body kit factory making spoilers and bumpers for a very well known body kit "manufacturer" in Australia.

They were even installing and putting resin over the "made in Australia" stickers

You would be shocked if you found out just how much "top quality" gear is made in China, branded and sent to 'the country of manufacture' to be on-sold, its a joke.

Mind you, a cnc machine driven by a 15 year old girl called Ling May, if set properly, will still machine a part just the same as a cnc machine anywhere else in the world, only difference is Ling May gets 1usd a day if she's lucky, I know, I've been through several factories in China, seen it all first hand.

haha... that is so true!

These rods were actually finalised in USA, big / small end bores honed to spec.

I actually sent the seller an email asking why i got the tomei rods... this is the reply i got:

Quote:
Our supplier supplied to Eagle, Elgin, Lunati, Tomei, Scat, and Summit,
We carry many different brand.
here is a quote from earlier email:

Quote:
These rods are made in China by CAT POWER. They are the supplier for
Eagle, Elgin, Lunati,Scat and Summit.
So i guess they are all made at the same factory, and with small difference in shape, sent to the tuning company, boxed, and sold for 3x the price.
