Exclamation WE WANT TO KNOW IT ONCE FOR ALL: RBs VS JZs

I put it simple:
Which are the better engines? The RBs or JZs?
If you think one is better then the other, tell us why.
Technical infos and experiences welcome.

Don't just say the RBs are better because you have one.

Looking at the details, the North American and UK 2JZ-GTE is better for the lazy cheap skate b*stard, like myself. 3 litres, 550cc injectors, steel turbos, fuel pump good for 575-600bhp. There's an awful lot you can do there without doing an awful lot... if you see what I mean.

I second that. The highest engine out dyno cell power figure (on standard internals) i saw for a 2 jz was 699bhp

Anyone got that far on a standard internal RB26?

On a different angle the 2jz supra ran from 93-02 without any major changes, yet we have seen 3 different versions of the skyline in that time...

You'll find that's not the record for a 2JZ or an RB26 on standard internals.

That doesn't really mean anything. And didn't the early MKIVs have a 5sp box?

My comment was simply alluding to the fact that you could achieve 550+bhp on a North American/UK Supra without upgrading the injectors, fuel pump or turbos. ~100bhp more than with an RB26. That's the only irrefutable fact of 2JZ vs RB26 comparison. The rest you could argue about until the sun dies.

I have had three 1JZs and one 2JZ. And one RB.

So, just to muddy the waters (add confusion) here is my tuppenceworth.

From my short experience, I am tempted to say that the RB costs more to tune... and is easier to break into the bargain. But this is only an initial impression. I have also had more compliments on the JZ: "a wonderful engine!" (from someone at Abbey MS), and I remember being told the sound of my engine on full song is fantastic.

By the same token, my Toyota mechanic in Japan was well impressed with the BNR34 after taking it for a spin and said he would take it over a Supra any day.

Why the hell would they use forged pistons on an NA engine?

They could of had 5spd, 6spd or auto, depending on model, I think the 5spd was dropped on the later models.

The Toyota MarkII Blit estate, don't know which JZ it got, but the figures are 380NM@ 2400rpms, which is a figure RBs can dream about. Someone more infos about the MarkII Blit?

GTRLux- If thats a late model car it will have a 1J 2.5 single turbo with VVTI.

The 1JZ can happily do about the same HP on stock internals as an RB26, and the 2JZ can do more, with better powerband to boot.

The JZs are better full stop IMO, though RBs and JZs are both great engines.

Annoying thing is I have a car that SHOULD have a 1JZ in it as standard, but has a bloody RB26 in it, lol.

To me its the bulletproof 2JZ what counts and what makes the difference. I have a R33GTR but am looking to get a supra. But due to the 4WD system of the Skyline its difficult to compare both engines.

Both great engines with great potential. Pick one, you wont be dissapointed.

I have to say it, even though I love my skyline to bits, but unfortunately the Toyotas JZ engines are just much more reliable and built stronger than the Skylines. I work for Toyota although my Skyline is my favourite car EVER, I have customers buying Toyota parts for Skylines because they have proven to be stronger and longer lasting.

Talking about mix 'n match, and to stir the mud a little more, I have a 1JZ parked outside the house right now with a GTR downpipe, a GTR fuel pump and a large GTROC member between the Recaro and the steering wheel!!! LOL
