Announcing the launch of the R.I.P.S Drag-R

The R.I.P.S Drag-R has been in the planning process since October 2007 with the physical work starting in January of this year. Initially I decided I would not write about it on the forum. I was going wait until the car's UK debut at either the HKS Series at Santa Pod or the ProStreet Series at Shakespeare.

However, the New Zealand motoring press have seen and photographed the project whilst doing a number of features on Spark's car (which is currently R.I.P.S centrepiece and is all over the motoring news in NZ) and so the cat is out of the bag!

I have to say that this has been one of the most interesting things I have ever been involved with during the whole of my life, and I'm no spring chicken! Already over 1000 hours has been poured into this project planning and manufacturing every last detail.

Over the next few weeks I will bring you up to date on this story with, of course, pictures of the work in progress.

The Drag-R is the highest spec car that R.I.P.S have ever built. The name was chosen after considering many others and rejecting them all because mainly they just sounded too corny! The only one I really liked was "The Lemon Squeezer" but that would have had Mick wanting to race for "Pink Slips" or 'loadsamoney' and that would be silly now wouldn't it? So it had to go.

Drag-R in this case stands for all Rs. GT-R, Race and most of all Road. The R.I.P.S Drag-R will be a road legal drag car built to the now expected high standards of Rob's firm. It is being prepared to meet all of the 2008 rules of racing for the HKS and ProStreet Series and yet will still be capable of popping down the shops!

The car is being built with power and reliability in mind. However if a few drive shafts don't break I will be amazed!

To be continued.....................

Can't wait to see pics and spec Jeff

Not long left to the start of the season so it must be nearly finished or even on the boat?

Sounds good Jeff but I think that Drag-R is a title belonging to the legendary Top Secret R33 (well that's what it is in my mind) Smokey Nagata and fly from Max power, flat out through a tunnel on the C1 and the immortal words

"three, one, five"

Maybe you should try a different name, Drag-R30 or Drag-30,
one thing is for sure by being original and showing some crazy passion for the GTR, Smokey Nagata is without doubt a tuning legend of the marque.
