I'll keep updating this thread till I start another

Apexi Power FC ordered today by the nice chaps @ Redline Performance in Wellington. They tell me that it should ship ex Japan on Monday and be in Auckland by next Friday, so I should have it early the week after!! Can't wait!

Sounds like a pretty simple install, but I have a massive PDF about installation and customisation, so I'll host that at some stage and paste a link up. Includes guys that have pulled the hand controller apart and integrated it into their dash/centre console!! Also, it includes info on D-Jetro and the NZ built custom PC link thingy. can't remember the name right now.....

FC Datalogit - absolutely critical to maintain your Power FC.

datalogit

don't see any real benefit other than saving maps to a pc and fuelling correction based on IAT. I don't plan to run odd AFM's or anything, and I'm most definately NOT interested in having a laptop connected to the darn thing half the time. would rather spend the money on the boost kit first!

but interested to hear opinions and stories from those with Datalogits.....

I definitely wouldn't say it's absolutely critical, and a Power FC needs no 'maintenance'. If you don't know what you're doing with it you're likely to do more harm than good. But if you want to get into mapping your own car and want to learn whats going on and what effect things have, then it's a great tool.

i already do some mapping on my rally car - has a new Link G3 engine computer - designed and built in NZ and pretty good! - I mean, engine management is pretty simple stuff as long as you apply common sense and logic - just helps to have a dyno as it's quite hard to watch the screen while driving!!

Thats cool, good price, Im always a bit weary of some NZ dealers prices but thats a good deal you got.
thats about the same as I paid from Nengun.

[quote]I still swear GT2530s feel laggier than stock when you actually drive an equivalent car running them.[quote]
They are....

If you got a d-jetro make sure you put the sensors where they say in the instructions.

Ive run standard c/w standard cams (advance 4 on inlet retarded 2 on exhaust) (or was it the other way around)
RS581's c/w 260 degree cams
2530 c/w 260 degree cams.
The 2530's are noticably more laggy than standard and the nismo's but still very fast to spool, but come in harder and for longer.
A mate (2nd in superlap) runs hybrid 2530's (cant tell you , signed the secrecy act) and his spools up very close to mine but makes even more power.(way over 700hp /crank)
Go the -5's.

interesting info. Nengun was actually $100 or so cheaper - but couldn't be arsed waiting 4-6 weeks for it!!

as it stands turbos are a while off yet - but interested to see if I have aftermarket cams - car came into NZ with HKS cam wheels which are not set to zero, so possibly has cams that have been timed in. otherwise someone was trying to get the absolute max out of the stock cams!

have not ordered D-Jetro - cannot be bothered and I'm not intending to make enough HP to warrant removing the AFMs. It will always be a street driven car. However, I can always buy the D-Jetro kit in the future if I change my mind. Next purchase will be the boost control kit for the PFC to replace the Blitz Dual-SBC controller, then a Datalogit if someone can convince me it's worth the $$$$..... then turbos.

Or if some nob has put vernier cam wheels on factory cams..... so thanks everyone. I've learned a bunch!
Nothing wrong with putting adjustable cam gears on stock cams. You can make power, shift the power curve.

If you are hiring a professional to tune your car and don't ever want to datalog maybe with a wideband o2 or egt (or any other 0-5v sensor) and don't ever want to make changes on your own then you don't need a datalogit. If you are going to tune the car yourself then you need a datalogit. The hand controller is incredibly tedious to use to make any sort of significant map changes. There are many settings you cant change in the controller and you can do things about 10 times more efficiently and quicker/easier with the Datalogit. You can view fuel or timing maps in 3 dimension graphs to visualize things, you can copy the table into a spreadsheet program (openoffice or Excel or whatever) and apply a multiplier to make quick changes across the board (or just to a few cells or however you want to do it). Just a few examples of why it's necessary if you plan on doing your own mapping.

I would take Z32 over the d-jetro and as a street car you will have no need to convert. However you can't just buy a D-jetro kit you need a whole new ECU. What's wrong with your dual SBC controller? those are great

D-SBC - seems ok - but the one I have in my rally car can't seem to hold constant boost - wavers quite dramatically. however, this may not be the controller it'self. A friend mentioned the boost control system would be good to have - then the PFC can control everything.

regarding D-Jetro - I'm sure it would be fairly easy to sell the old PFC here and get a D-Jetro for the same $$$ !!

Datalogit sounds good - but I basically want my turner to set it up and then use the hand controller to show off to a few people then tuck it away and just drive it.

I'm not an incessant fiddler like some people on here.... !!!

I used to have a pfc pro, and ran 25t afm's.
The only problems I ever had with the car were always afm related.
In hindsight , what I should have done is just got 2 new nismo afm's, as this was slightly cheaper than the d-jetro, I didnt realise I would loose the launch control by changing to d-jetro, which is the only regret I have.
Cold air box and inlet tracts are a lot less complicated now.
When I adjusted my cams, it basically moved the torque curve slightly to the left on the graph which effecively gave the car slightly more bottom end.
It didnt make any more power.(standard cams)
You dont even need aftermarket cams to make 600 hp.

would have loved a PFC pro - with ign cut revlimiter rather than fuel cut. but thinking I might put in a Bee*R limiter instead. Fuel cut gives me the sh*ts.

D jetro- maybe although they are usually more expensive than the L-jetronic systems.

Sounds like you're a perfect candidate for the PFC+controller since you're going to hire a tuner-nothing wrong with that whatsoever. But personally, I would NEVER tuck away the controller. It is far too useful as a monitoring tool.

Glenn, sorry to hear about your afm problems. They do creep up once in awhile, but its always an easy fix especially since you can monitor voltage so easily with a PFC. I would have bought a brand new pair of Z32's and cone filters to match, personally. I don't see why the Nismos are so popular when the Z32s are 10mm larger and a much easier setup in the PFC.

btw, don't run 2860s at 1.9bar, unless you plan on rebuilding them every 10K miles. This is from experience; I'm finding this out now as my turbos were just inspected!
