Quoted power figures
I know this is a long running debate but I couldn't find a specific thread so if this is a repost- apologies.
Is the 480bhp quoted by Nissan at the wheels or engine ? Which do other manufactureres quote? Have any standard ones been dyno'd yet? Cheers |

nissan has advanced technology used throught the whole car. it exhibits 15% drivetrain loss when done on a dyno. at the engine, its rated at 480hp. friction losses are reduced to an unprecedented 10 percent or so
for those who dont know claim its 600hp, but thats false. motor trend also is going to prove this (but i doubt they know how to realisticly). Nissan 360 Day 1: Things I've Learned | Car News Blog at Motor Trend Quote:

Power figures are worthless. I do not know why some people get so wrap up into them. That is why a 300hp car can beat 800hp car, because if you just look at the power output, your missing the boat on how cars work.

am sure i've seen power figs at about 530bhp quoted somewhere, but i imagine it all comes down to conditions on the day, dyno (have seen 10-15% swings on a dyno), fuel etc.....
i'd be quite happy with 500+, but at the end of the day numbers mean nothing - its how the car drives, handles, feels, and brakes in comparison with other car.

As soon as I get my GT-R I will be going to a dynojet and have it measured properly.
Not a mustang dyno, not a dynagay. I want to see it to the wheels. with no boost increase / ECU tweaks, no exhaust, no increased octane (91 octane US), no games. |

i noticed you quoting 91 octane - are US octane readings on a par with UK??? - if so, it seems a big difference as i was expecting to the UK GTR to require 98 octane at least! - are US cars effectively 'detuned' to run on 91?, OR..............., am i being thick somewhere????

My mechanic lives in Peoria. I am trying to get him priveleges at a Nissan dealership. VERY good mechanic. Got me into the 10s last year (street-legal). Should be interesting to see what he can do with a GT-R.
