I feel sorry for the people, but just sending aid and money wont help , if its not going to the right people.
Even there own govener spent 25million on his daughters wedding, and gave 2.5million for his peoples suffering. SO TELL ME WERE THE AID MONEY WOULD END UP. If they dont want aid dont send it simple. IN SOME GREEDY GETS POCKET , THEN COME OVER HERE AND BUY A FOOTBALL CLUB. |

Trev, rasonline, you cannot use the same line used with East Timor: "because there's no oil there".
...at the risk of repetition, there is quite a bit of oil and gas in Myanmar. Just run a Google on "Myanmar, Oil" (remember Burmah Oil?) and discover what has been going on behind the scenes. You won't like some of it. Take your time and be prepared for a rethink. Actually I think it is in our interest to go in and help sort out the mess, whatever we do or don't feel in our hearts. Some of the world's most dreaded diseases start out of a breakdown in social cohesion brought about by extreme deprivation or war. (We depend on Indonesia and Vietnam and China to be able to deal domestically with outbreaks of avian influenza, for example.)

The US military has said it has about 11,000 servicemen and four ships in the region on a military
exercise that could be harnessed to help, but the Burmese "Government" is preventing them from entering. Countless other countries have pledged aid and it is sitting on the tarmac in airports because the Burmese "Government" is refusing any assistance with the distribution. Quite frankly if a million or so people are going to die because of their insecurities / direct incompetence, someone somewhere should seriously consider using this opportunity to take them out. And I don't mean for dinner.. It’s such a shame, that we have all of these resources and technology available to assist people in these sorts of disaster situations and narrow minded folk prevent us from using them to save peoples lives. Burma= No oil, no diamonds, no nothing. --> Of no international interest.
The 1st news was: Germany sends 500.000 € as instant help. And that is no private money, its the state's money. I mean they just miscalculated the costs of a new autobahn near me and had to finance another 580 MILLION(!!!) € in addition to the original 1.200.000.000 € for that alone. 500K that's a joke, that's what our politicians use on 1 weekend to drive home with 6 S class Mercers and 15 security guys... |

To be fair to the Germans (you won't hear me say that often), sending money probably won't help the people at all - it's the food, water, shelter and medical supplies that are of use and won't line the pockets of the military.
