advise needed for R34 GTR V-spec
Hello everyone I was after some advice for my R34 GTR V-SPEC. It is pretty much standard apart from an aftermarket back box (don’t know what it is?) and apparently being tuned by Mines (has a gold plank stating this on the ECU).
I wanted to replace the standard air box with some cone filters, but am not sure what brand to use?? Some advice here on the different brands would be nice and where to source them from for the minimum cost. Secondly I wanted some advice on turbo timers. I was looking at a BLITZ FATT TURBO TIMER, which seams ideal as the mounted display screen only takes up a small amount of space, yet again I dot know much about these and the best place to source them? Does it work without the key in the ignition as the NATS keys have an immobilizer chip within them? Can you leave the car and alarm it while the turbo timer is counting down? And finally I was looking into treating the underneath of my car as it’s a fresh import I was told that as it comes from a dry country it need to be protected by some sort of under car sealant? Is this true? Where is the best place to get this done from? And is it possible to do it myself? (As I don’t mind getting dirty) is their a guide available on how to do this? What products do I need to use? How much should I be paying if someone does it for me? I look forward to the advice |

Standard air box is very good and efficient... Keep it and just get a Nismo uprated filter. Save the money for a sports cat or decat. If you do want one I think Sky 1t is selling a blitz one from his R34...
Can do the underseal yourself too, just buy the stuff from Halfords and it comes with a spray, very easy to use.. Dont bother with a turbo timer too... |

I wouldnt bother with a turbo timer either. I have a Greddy one on mine but very rarely use it. If your going to do some hard driving, just sit in the car and let it cool down for a couple of minutes before you turn it off. Insurance companies dont like turbo timers anyway.
The waxoyling you can do yourself. Its a very dirty and smelly job bit easy enough to do. I do mine every year. If your going to remove the air box and fit cone filters, then fit Apexi ones as they're the best for filtering out the dirt. However, you will be making the car very loud inside the cockpit if you fit aftermarket filters. The airbox is a much quieter option, or you could go for an "ARC" airbox, but these can be expensive. Good luck. |

If you have a tuned JDM ECU I would remove it from your car before driving it hard as it's mapped for Japanese fuel and you will likely detonate with it. UK fuel is better then US fuel, but I would rather be safe then $5000 engine sorry.

Thanks for all the advice on the topics I had mentioned. It has been very useful and is well appreciated. So I will forget the turbo timer as it seams to be a waste of time, and for the under sealant i will visit Halfords and do it myself by following instructions off the tin and finally Apexi cone filter seam to be everyone’s favourite so I will be purchasing these very soon.
What does SamuraiSam posting on this thread mean? Not to sure what JDM stands for?? And I will be having a dyno run after I have put the Apexi filters in to check fueling and BHP. |

JDM stands for Japanese Domestic Market. He is basically saying that since Mine's is a Japanese company, your ECU is most likely tuned for Japanese fuel, not UK fuel, so a retune might help you get the most out of your car.

I only use my turbo timer to warm up the car in the morning.
Great way to start the car, remove the keys, then set it to 10 minutes countdown, then it can warm up with no risk of anyone driving off in it as if they drop the handbrake it'll cut out and of course the steering locks on too. Generally you don't rag the ar$e off the car then turn it off anyhow so generally doesn't need to run down. My timer also does top speed and 0-400m 0-1km etc etc so has some other handy stuff. Re tuning, I don't think it's worth taking the risk as others have mentioned............ it's not expensive to get it sorted properly so you can drive in the knowledge you're not doing any long term harm.
