Trackers for GTR

Ive been advised I have to have a tracker to get insurance on the gtr next year. Any advice or comments on this would be a great help please, as I've never had one on a car before.

RAC trackstar is the best, but my insurer advised me trackers make no difference to a policy, bar telling the police what field your car is burning in

Tracker monitor should be sufficient mate. Not a great lot of point in spending large cash on anything else imho as in the current climate of car thefts, I would guess you will be well aware of a GT-R being knicked

my insurance quote was cheaper on the R35 GTR with a tracker, it makes no difference on the R33

I've had trackers on my last 4 cars (2 requested by insurance, 2 my choice) and I wouldnt have a car without.

My old Mini Cooper S got nicked using the keys stolen from my work and was returned to me in perfect condition 4 hours later.

All prestige or "nicked to order" cars are stolen to be parked up for 3-4 days (to allow the scumbags time to see if a tracker is fitted) and will be handed over in perfect condition. So there is every chance your pride and joy will be returned in the same condition it left you.

I have no wish to see my insurance premiums screwed over just because I didnt get my car back.

Also my insurance premiums were 10-20% lower each year too.

I've had TRACKER itself, as well as a GPS based unit which had more features such as being able to "ring fence" the car when I was on holiday so if it moved, the monitoring team would contact the police without any need for me to be involved. Great peace of mind IMHO.

My 1st post, ......tracker good, track star not so. The trouble is a pure GPS system can now be beat, i rather not say how but the "kit" is easy to get via the net.

Tracker is i think a duel system as it has GPS but also a powerful VHF system. This to my knowage can't be jammed or confused, once triggered the police traffic cars and more imporant the helecopters have the kit to find it quickly.

I did a lot reserch after my carjacking for my CTR, not something your enjoy take it from me. Remember your driving an "Icon car" the scumbags will have driven it via "Playstation" and they want a go in the real thing................not worried about getting nicked.

I also give a lot of thought about anti- carjack, a number of systems that either kill the car there and then or after say 1 mile later.

Cheers
Mike

Thanks for the info, I have to have one at most of the insurance companies I have phoned up, but I'm starting to like the idea anyway. I'm looking at a one-off payment tracker rather than a subscription one, I'll have to look at the web for prices. My dealer has offered to fit one, is this a good idea or do specialist companies do this job normally?

get anti hijack, if a lot of thugs get the car walk away, call the police and it will stop within 200yards

Your dealer will pick up a phone once your though the door and bring in the same guy that would turn up @ your door. I suspect your find that its the same price, thus i go for dealer.

Have a mate in the MG owners club and when he had one fitted to his 75 V8 the guy made a total mess of the job..................needed a new wiring loom fitting..........which Trackstar paid for!

Perhaps its an idea to keep it all under one roof.

I can't stress enough that your be driving an "Icon" car, i remember the insane lenghts the scumbags went to to take Cosworths in the 80,s/90,s......i have a long think about your personal safety and that of the car.

Assume YOU WILL BE ATTACKED, you want the car stopped either before its gone or say 1 mile after. Remember these Scumbags do not worry about the law, they know how weak it is & how little jail time they face. We had a case in Manchester were they beat a guy to dead to ensure he wouldn't report the car missing (MERC drop top)............they are monsters!

They will travel to get your car, my friend (Ex Traffic cop) found people going 50-60+ miles for a selected car.

Cheers

My latest install on my W164 M class Merc was organised directly through TRACKER.

Cost me some £500 less than letting Mercedes organise it, and they will come to your home or work. Very efficient and easy peasy to sort.

My advice is to get Tracker to do it for you, assuming you go with Tracker of course.

I had the pentagon safety glass fitted a few years back - didn't make a difference to my policy, someone rams me and up it goes. Don't figure
