Yuko's booked a Ryokan for 4 July which should be close to “Sports land Yamanashi” circuit place.
Dai Chan, Daniel & I will all stay in the same (Japanese style) Tatami room. There's an Ofuro, but not Onsen, however apparently we can go to some Onsen nearby. Price is very reasonable at 5,000 – 5,500 yen for 1 person, with Breakfast. If anyone else thinks it's a good idea to stay there the night before, you may want to book in: “SHIMIZUYA” —·ŠÙ´…‰®@ŽR—œŒ§”BèŽs@•“c‚Ì—¢@ŠÙ“à‚Ì‚²ˆÄ“à DCD - See you at your place in about 45 mins... Assuming the Navi doesn't get us lost ![]() |

Piers - I have you signed up. I hope you are still coming...in which case, do you need someplace to stay?

Update -
If people want their names/car info etc recorded on printouts showing their times, etc. - then I will need to send in everyone's information by July 1. I note that I have yet to receive everyone's information. Please PM me their name, address and car information (ie if you have a nickname for your car, etc.) Also - if anyone is planning on running a convertible, track rules require such cars, whether they have a hard top or not, to have a roll cage installed. When I asked what kind, it didn't matter, just anything so your head doesn't get ripped off if the car rolls over. I apologize for not getting this information out sooner. Thanks guys. Hope to get some PMs soon, otherwise I'm making up everyone's name and car info. Aki

Gentlemen - here are the official track rules... (translated poorly from the materials I was given) Please read before arriving (although you'll probably have them explained to you on the day).
Also - with regards to convertibles - if you have built in (head protection) like in the S2000, you are ok. Their rules are for those without such head protection. I called the track and specifically inquired about the AP2 S2000 and the latest Mazda Roadster. So long as the cars have the standard roll over bars behind the seats, we should be ok. Just in case, the lady's name was MATSUZAWA. Aki Track Rules for SportsLand Yamanashi: Rules regarding Cars: Usually, it is possible to run with a "normal" car. However, you should always conduct a check before running (i.e. pre starting inspection). An operating silencer is necessary to have on. Headlights and foglights must be taped so that there is no glass visible. Allowed tape types are vinyl and duct tape. For cars which have removed their air (cleaner) boxes, they must have an oil catch tank attached. Also, the following items must be fulfilled: 4 wheel vehicles - for "open cars," a roll over bar is necessary. An open car is defined as a vehicle without structural materials above the driver's head. Wheel caps must be removed unless they are secured by bolts. As rubber mats may interefer with pedal operation, these should always be removed. A car with severe front/rear off balance cannot be run on track. Ideally all 4 wheels should be the same brand. Rules concerning Safety: 4 wheel vehicles - must wear a helmet that meets or surpasses the JIS B grade rules (note: this means for motorcycles - not scooters - or better). A racing suit is ideal but one may run with clothing that is similar (long sleeves, long pants). Should wear "racing gloves." Rules concerning Running on the Track. 1) Course-in (entering the track), Course-out (entering the pit): Course-in takes place from the pit road in front of the control tower. To Course-out, go inside of the dotted yellow lines in front of the S-corner. Although the yellow dotted line can be driven over during running the track, never cross over the solid yellow line. 2) Duties while running on the track While running on the track, intentional driving off the track is prohibited. The track is defined as between the white lines drawn on both sides of the track. 3) Respecting the Signals While running on the track, always pay attention to the signals and flags, and follow their direction. The main flags are as below: Yellow Flag - go slow. There is a large danger ahead. Red Flag - Track running suspended. Immediately return to the paddock, and wait. Black Flag - Displayed for a specific car. The car for which it is displayed must immediately suspend running, and follow the directions of the officials. Checker Flag - Running has ended. Course-out after one lap of cooling down. After the checker flag, always slow down your running pace. 4) Responding to Occurance of Trouble. (for cars) (1) If you spin - slowly return onto the track after confirming it is safe to do so (for cars from behind). In particular, if you spin off outside the track, take great car not to dirty the track while running off the racing line. (2) If you crash - stay in your car. As there glass and oil may be scattered, do not move your car until instructed to do after by track officials after they arrive at your car. (3) When your car cannot run due to mechanical trouble - to the best of your ability, park your car where it will not get in the way of others who are running (outside the racing line). The driver should stay inside the car. If it is possible that oil is leaking, always move the car outside of the track course. After track officials arrive, follow their directions. Damage/Injury Compensation and Disclaimer The circuit (and the company that runs it) disclaim all responsibility for injuries of participants caused by accidents occuring at these facilities. This does not change even if (such injury is) caused by defects of the facility, or mistakes made by the staff. Also, for damage caused due to an accident by participants while using the facilities, the persons involved in the accident shall reimburse as their responsibility

Ok gentlemen,
Here's the final head count - correct me if I have your screen handle/name and car description wrong, I have to fax this in to the circuit tomorrow. Also, unless I hear otherwise from you by end of today, I will assume that you are going, and will very business-like ask you to contribute your share for the costs I've already incurred if you cancel after today. Sorry to be so crass, but based on the numbers we have already lined up lunch, insurance, etc. payments so please understand the hassle we have to go through for late cancels. The FINAL list 1) Nick - R34 2) Miguel - AE86 3) Dai - AE86 4) Paul - R34 5) James - R32 6) Sumi-san - S15 7) Richard - S2000 8) Russ - Roadster 9) Aki - R33 Gonna be a nice small group of people, then. Will send out instructions to the track this evening. I'm afraid I don't have the time to organize a group stay anywhere close by. Plan on being at the track between 0730-0800, Sunako will start lecturing at 0800 (probably for about 30 minutes), but you will probably want to prep your car (See Rules posted earlier) and that will take about 30 minutes, so better to be early. Aki PS James, if you don't get your R in time, please show up in your current ride anyway. you'll still learn lots.

Directions to Sports Land Yamanashi
Gents,
Here are links to directions to the track. As a reminder, gates open at 0730, you may need a few minutes to prep your car, and we are planning to make full use of our fees by getting underway when the track opens, at 0900. The day will end at 1600, when the track closes. Day will be split into morning and afternoon sessions, with the morning review/practice of key techniques and afternoon the ride-alongs and one on one instruction. There will be two groups, so it will be max 5 cars on the track at once. Again, for those who have not yet PM'd me with their names and addresses, please do so. Thanks. [ƒXƒ|[ƒcƒ‰ƒ“ƒh‚â‚܂Ȃµ]ƒAƒNƒZƒX [ƒXƒ|[ƒcƒ‰ƒ“ƒh‚â‚܂Ȃµ]LˆæƒAƒNƒZƒXƒ}ƒbƒv My cell, just in case you are running late, is 080-3496-7535. Directions from Tokyo, English version: Get to, and take the Chuo Expressway, heading west. The exit is the Nirasaki (韮崎) I.C. - this is about 117kms west of the Chuo Choufu (調布) I.C. (about 90 minutes). Once you get off at Nirasaki - take a right - you will see a 7-11 on the left side right after you exit the expressway. This is Route 27. Keep going straight on the main road for about 15 minutes - then on the right hand side, you will see a YELLOW sign for Sports Land Yamanashi - "SLy" next to a billboard for Yokohama Tires. Turn right here and you are at the track - see photo at the bottom of the first link. For those of you with Navis that can input phone numbers - 0551-22-8226. Address is - Yamanashi-ken, Nirasaki-shi, Hosaka-machi, Yanagidaira 2492. Here's a google link - Google ƒ}ƒbƒv

I have some blue painter's tape I ordered and it just arrived. Would be nice to apply it to the front end of your car if you are concerned about stone chips while on the circuit. It is 2 inched wide and 60 meters long. I have a total of 8 rolls, but 2 are spoken for (me & Aki). 1 roll should be plenty, as you would probably want to put more than 1 layer on. I will let them go for what I go it for, 500 yen a roll, so I really have 6 rolls I can let go. These should not leave residue as it is painter's tape. I know I will have mine taped up, just in case I am behind someone with stickies on

That's great - You're always so helpful Paul!
Unfortunately my AE86 has already suffered some scratches and light cracks to both FRP bumpers including a few from the track event at Nikko last week... Just minor battle scars that are inevitable. When it gets a bit worse I'll get them repaired and re-painted. As for the FD, not so sure it'll be coming on this trip now... but it's got millions of tiny stone chips all over it. A few more won't hurt Might borrow some of the tape from you for taping up the front lights though.. Today I took the '86 to have new RE-11's fitted to the front, leaving RE-01R's with a bit of side wall wear for the rear.... Tommorow it'll be a complete oil change on all mechanical parts, then Wed it'll go for a full allignment check & adjustment. Then it'll be ready to work in Yamanashi! ![]() |

I'm all set for Saturday. Went to Mine's last night for a full service and check up, everything is 100%.
Miguel - Hopefully I'm going to get a room booked in the same place today but if not I'll just kip in the car. Don't fancy driving all that way in the morning either. Paul - I could do with a bit of tape for the leading edge of the bonnet if that's OK. No point taping up the bumper, I'll get it repainted later in the year.
