GT-ss or GT2530?
Hi all,
I am in a dilemma at the moment. I heard that the GT2530 has been discontinued, but some sites have them in stock. I am looking for everyday drivability but also quick response turbo. I have seen the Mines R34 video, it is so awesome, just looking at the revs going like crazy. Ive read that the boost kicks in at around 5000 rpm, what else do I have to install or modify to compensate the late boost. Regarding GTss, it is a bolt on kit which replaces the stock turbos. As both turbos are rated 600hp, it is quite hard to pick or just buy both sets . |

we have seen good results using the GT-SS turbines on RB26 engines, with the exhaust done, a good boost controller (EVC5), F-con IS piggy back ecu, 700cc injectors and a beefier fuel pump, 300rwkw @ 12psi can be safely pulled out from a well running engine.
the GT2530 is good for upto 400rwkw with the above supporting mods plus some internal engine work (Forged Pistons, Con-rod, Con-rod bolts, Head Gasket) and a bit of cam work too. the GT2530 is an upgrade from a GT-SS if you like to think of it that way, so more response on the SS. however the Garrett GT2560R is another to consider, tuned right will be only about 500rpm slower on boost than the GT-SS so about 4000rpm at full boost, 1mm smaller compressor wheel, so no biggy and price isnt too shabby either. and a bit more power too. |

GT2530 every single time. Every time. EVERY TIME. NO QUESTION. Much more HP potential. Boost threshold a little later, response is amazing compared to stock. As long as you are above the boost threshold which is possible past 40/kmh if you know how to drive a car, put in the correct gear, and GO. Easy to drive around town every day. Easy to drive hard, drive fast, if you have any seat time. Point the car where you want it to go a little before the apex, and apply throttle. Done.
You don't need to apply or add anything beyond regular supporting mods (fuel system, tuning, make sure your tires/brakes/suspension components are up to par) for the 2530s compared to GT-SS turbochargers. Last edited by SamuraiSam; 21st June 2008 at 08:49 AM. |

It depends on what you want out of the car, for street GT-SS! It is better suited for noraml road use, more power down low, and quicker spool of course. Top end power goes to the 2530, but for a car that will not see any track action, it is hard to beat the GT-SS to help the guttless low end of the RB26. |

GT-SS turbos will come on boost close to/ or as quickly as the stockers will..
It's a bit of smoke and mirrors with the mine's car... Can't remember all the details but different ratios were used, this helped achieve the "revs going up like crazy" |

that hadn't occurred to me - a switch to 4.111 R32 diffs front and rear will certainly make an R34 an "ultimate response" machine. My friend is actually doing that atm, I should see how his car is getting on.

Im running GT-ss on mine with 660cc injectors, Pons cams and F-Con pro, spools up very fast and you have to pull each gear very quickly at full chat.....
Just made 515hp at Perfect Touch today Highly recommend the GT-ss set up for the road, docile for round town but slightest of throttle and its instant power.

I was referring to below 3.5k RPMs (low end torque), something the RB26s are not engineered for, that is all I was getting at, when compared to an engine that is. Sure you can drive around at 4 grand all day long , just not my cup of tea, what kind of mileage? Less than 14mpg, easy So you think the 2530 make more power than the GT-SS through out the whole power band? |

I swear to god, most of the people that complain about this bullshit term called "turbo lag" have never heard of shifting gears or the term "boost threshold" before. Turbo lag - turbo response - real or imagined - FreshAlloy.com Forums Last edited by SamuraiSam; 21st June 2008 at 08:28 PM. |
