Luckham, Al Jazeera is one of the places I visit regularly, (even though many of their articles come straight from the BBC), in an attempt to see the world from many different angles. Hate to get lop-sided. Anyway, are you suggesting that the interview might be skewed for some reason because it's Al Jazeera? Their magazine is very anti-logic and stupidly emotional, but their international web daily is quite well balanced, I feel, and they do come up with some genuine investigative reporting every so often.
As for Mugabe, the man we all love to hate... I have spent so much time on imagining different ways of wiping the sweaty smile off his face, but it's like throwing stones at a reflection in the pond. He succeeds admirably in getting up our noses, and this must be one of the reasons why his supporters still love him. So, I concentrated on an interview with Morgan, and realized again that I have been supporting him purely because he's against Mugabe, and not because I know what he would really be able to accomplish in Zimbabwe.

A strong supporter of the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa.
He has become a turd of late though. Time to flush. However, I don't want to see a puppet in his place. Unfortunately I think the MDC leader fits that description. |

He does have some natty jackets though...and nice to see the moustache that went out of fashion some 50 years ago is alive and well. I can't see Gillette contacting him anytime soon mind you...
I think the bit where he proclaimed only God will remove him from power suggests that democracy isn't really at the top of his agenda.. What's the rumour, he suffers from tertiary syphilis and , hence, his brain is somewhat addled? Has anyone got a google earth on his pad? I hear he was building a quite splendid little retreat Ignoring the obvious colonial suggestions wouldn't it be just great if someone dropped a small bomb on his new pad,,just to annoy him. (before the small sniper team goes in and erases him obviously) It would be a 'Grand Designs - Re-designed (courtesy of explosives)'

In terms of international action against Zimbabwe it is rather difficult because the country has democratic electons. While other African nations turn a blind eye to the rather obvious gerrymandering it would be a different matter if the West decided that it didn't like the outcome of said elections and invaded. Its a rather unfortunate rule in that while a dictator is only killing his own people other nations tend not to give a sh!t

Trev - Technically they are democratic elections and Zimbabwe is a democracy. He may well have gerrymandered every election he's stood in but that sort of thing goes on in all democratic countries to a lesser or greater extent. The difference this time round is he's had to make it more overt to the point where he can't credibly deny that this has gone on.

Correct. All 'democracy' means is that an election is held. Even if people are dragged down the street by their hair at gun point to the polling booth, it still counts unfortunately. Far too much emphasis is placed on one word and not enough on what actually goes on.
