According to the NISSAN GB website you can cancel when ever you wish before you sign the contract!

10. Your Reservation Payment will be fully refundable by Your Dealer if (a) you decide not to enter into a contract with Your Dealer to purchase the GT-R; (b) before entering into a contract with Your Dealer to purchase a GT-R Your Dealer becomes unable to accept your order for a GT-R; (c) your Pre-Order Reservation lapses; or (d) your GT-R Pre-Order Reservation is otherwise cancelled. If you are entitled to a refund of your Reservation Payment, Your Dealer will return your Reservation Payment to you in full as soon as reasonably practicable and in any event no later than 30 days from the date on which your GT-R Pre-Order Reservation was cancelled by you or Your Dealer. Neither Nissan nor Your Dealer shall have any further liability to you whatsoever (including any liability to pay interest in respect of the Reservation Payment).

Dates have got nothing to do with it, its if you sign the contract that matters. thats why its called a contract :-)

The 5 July deadline is after you have signed the official order, I signed mine last week.

Even if your Stealer / Dealer will not give you back the deposit - tell them that you will take delivery but 1 month before you will advertise the car in a National paper with a premium - that should make them take note.

A lot can happen before UK deliveries begin but If the waiting list continues to grow nobody needs to worry about their 3.5K deposit.if your personnel cicumstances change you wont have a problem getting shut of the car.
I know a guy with an R8 who actually didnt like the car.Took it back after 3 months & the dealer gave him 5K more than he paid for it - the dealer then sold it for another 5K mark-up!
Lets hope the GTR is in demand like the R8 was.I just want to enjoy mine, but minimal depreciation is a bonus.

Can't think why your mate didn't sell the R8 privately then!? Most are selling now at a £15-20k markup.

I've always been told in the past that dealers got penalised by their manufacturer if they sold over list in the UK? - suppose non-francised dealer could do.
Either way, I'm hoping for a not-too dissimilar situation. However, as people have said before this is probably less guaranteed than it might previously have been due to:
the fuel hikes and credit crunch
Nissan fulfilling demand for pre-orders rather than keeping numbers purposely low and hence generating a waiting list of their choosing

There are 2 cars advertised in this weeks sunday times at 15k over list for June and July 09 delivery - same advert as last week. I'm also going on the assumption that having a silver, non-sat nav car gets me a car effectively £3300 less than a new order, so must help to some degree with residuals.

Not an expert on the topic, but arent most R8s selling at 15-20k more because they've had 15-20k worth of extras added?.
I was told that most have to spec a fair few bits and hence distorting the resale/base price comparison.

Dealers are not allowed to sell new cars for more than list only used cars, and then they are not allowed to advertise the price hence POA (price on application).

Thats how the top boys deal with it anyway.

As soon as the car becomes second hand the dealer can sell it for as much as he likes.
In the case of the R8 the dealer asked my friend when he bought it to give him first chance to buy it back.
So on that car the dealer made a nice profit selling at list when it was new & 5K selling it again 3 months later
