Lol wade, my aim is if it not structual and or again's the regs it'll be either removed or remade in carbon

My latest idea is to mould all the rear end and do away with the metal boot chanels and then make the chanels part of the rear quaters, also i'm hoping to make the front bumper and wings in 1 piece which would also alow me to remove some unstructual meatal

What about bonnet bumper an wings all in one like the old e type jag,
might be a bit of a strugle for quick access though !

Just read through this thread...wow.

Really love this kind of stuff, very inspiring

Fair play and a great show of dedication and enthusiasm.

Im currently doing something similar with my TA build, but have not got as far as you, but certainley picked up a few tips/idea's from your thread.

Neil are you able to share the details regarding the fabricators and also are you able to do any moulds of my shell.

Can pm you details if interested.

Regards

This is without a doubt the most interesting project I have seen in years, and probably the best GTR project full stop

Now that will be awesome and something I would love to see!

How will you do it then? Wet Layup and vac down? Resin Infusion? Prepreg? would be awesome if you had access to an autoclave

The front will have to be a 3 part mould and i'll be using low cure prepreg which will be vac bagged in an oven i've built.

Thanks for all the comments much appreciated

Neilo, nice job and ALOT of work you've committed to, should be awesome :-)

Wondering why you didn't wide body the rear guards over the steel guards then take the mould off them or are you intending on leaving the rear guards stock width?

Also, your front mcpherson strut idea looks very similar to a setup we have recently test fitted on a 32 GTR except we used specific fwd hubs that took the GTR CV joint and brakes, saved a MASSIVE amount of weight and should make adjustments much easier, will be interesting to see how both setups work out after some testing, best of luck with yours, looks great,

Robbie.

Hi Robbie

Thanks mate Alot more still to do but slowly ticking off the jobs.

The rear quaters have already been widened 50mm and the front 25mm, the rear inner arches will be tubbed to give more room for travel.

The Mcpherson set was designed and built by a company that have worked on WRC car's and many other pro cars, their original idea was to use the front skyline hubs all round so we'd only had one type of spare hub to carry, but it was going to be to much work and cost so ditched the idea.

We have a top mount which is used for the caster adjustment with a spherical bearing [ not the one in earlier pics ] and the shock bracket which has the camber adjustment.

The geometry was designed so the tyre will have full contact with the ground in it's full compressed or extended state.

This subframe and Mcpherson setup has saved 100kg which i'm well happy with just hope it works as well as it looks.

Cheers again
Neil

Thanks for your comments GT-R Glenn they're much appreciated Over the years of skyline ownership i've modded the 2 skylines which i've owned bit by bit and as usual their's always something better/new out which in my case i was always pulling it off the road to do some more mods, so this time i wanted not to compromise on anything within reason and think about it hard to build the best gtr i could.

Hopefully i do it right this time lol as i won't be doing it again.

Neil

Neilo - You are a bloody legend.

Make sure you take lots of pics of the process of the mould and prepreg layup. Would be great to see. If you need a tea boy for the day ill happily help out :P

I couldn't agree more with the way your going about it but it will be interesting to see how many people (if any) don't consider it a true GTR anymore with what you're doing.

It'll probably be only the GTR owners you beat that will come up with the excuses and have a moan, thats usually how it works, lol.

Best of luck, your doing it just as I would if I wanted a killer track car.

Robbie.

I have been watching all the posts on this fantastic project, You are really going to the extreme on this Neilo! Great to see someone going beyond the norm, It will be awesome!

Just wondered if you have concidered moving the engine back 8" for better weight distribution by modifing the sump and pushing the front diff foward? (like the red Pro-Stock car)

Have a look at the diff/Sump set up. It is still a wet sump, But the oil pan position is now at the back.
