Question Power Steering Diagnostics - help!

I have been having intermittant power steering problems on my GTS-25T ECR33 for a while now and I'm trying to put the car into diagnostics mode.
I have followed the instructions on various forums but it refuses to go into diagnostic mode ..

Background info ... Hicas electronic rear steering, hydraulic front steering; yellow warning light on dash, front power steering very heavy, often only happens on cold start when it's been raining, it sometimes fixes itself during 10 mile drive to work .. .sometimes it doesn't, it never goes into failed state during driving unless I stop and restart the car.

It's been confusing me for a while now . .so any advice/ suggestions will be much appreciated.

I'd suggest it's the hicas system throwing the PS system out.....
What procedure have you been using?

i would of thought its one of the 2 sensors in the power steering pipes or just the multiplugs to them, perhaps low fluid or fluid that needs changing

strange as it may sound, does the speedo work as it should ?

Thanks Ian and Andy for gettng back to me.
In terms of the fault, it is intermittent, it usually fails on a cold start (especially in wet weather) and then kicks in (sometimes) when driving ... it never fails during driving once it has started working - this is what is confusing me. The fluid level and pump to the front are fine. The rear hicas is electronic.

I have wondered about the speed sensor ... but the speedometer works fine.
I have also wondered about maybe damp / water getting in and causing a short somewhere, but my understanding is that if the hicas fails, it goes into failsafe mode which is full power assist?

In order to run diagnostics I have tried starting the engine, turning the steering wheel left and right 5 times and then pressing the brake pedal 5 times, turning the wheel again then driving slowly forward for 10 metres etc and other slight variations on this but it won't go into diagnostic mode

hope you can help... cheers, Andy

you can pull the fuse or the multiplugs off the hicas rack on the gts, the light will come on but the steering should stay as normal

i would look at the plugs in the power steering pipes, both are located on the O/S of the engine, if the engine has been out for any reason these sometimes get overlooked for being undone and they may of been pulled
