Middlehurst closed due to road closure - 14/04/11

Quoted from email I have just received:

"HOMES and work places were evacuated following a fire at a disused gas tower in St Helens today.
________________________________________
Emergency services were called at about 3.45pm to a report that the structure near to Middlehurst Motorsport GT-R Jackson Street was on fire.
Workers and residents in the immediate area were evacuated from buildings as a precaution. A cordon was put in place for health and safety reasons.
At present the emergency services will not allow any access to Jackson Street until a safety assessment has been made of the area. This means that we unable to answer our phones and receive or dispatch GT-R's that are with us.
There is no danger to any GT-R's that are with us. This action is an entirely precautionary measure put in place by Merseyside emergency services."

LOL! It does make a good landmark as it can be seen after pulling off the East Lancs, kind of like the Blackpool Tower of St Helens!

I first visited Middlehurst in 1995 when I bought my R32 off them, but hadn't been there for about 10 years when I bought the R35 in 2009, but turning off the M6 and seeing that gas tower brought it all back!

Hope the business is open again soon and without any issues.

R35 in 1999 or 2009? I thought all R35 are at least 12.2007.

I got caught up in this last night going home. It was the old gas cooling tower that had smoke bellowing from the top.
