Just enjoying this month's EVO and I see TVR Power warranty their work.

So why don't those tuning GTRs do the same?

You'll probably find that the upgraded parts and labour carry a warranty but any subsequent failure of other parts not replaced would not be covered. The warranty therefore applies to only the new components, not existing ones. The words "grey area" spring to mind.

Not prejudicing the quality of work done, but seems a bit half **** on a car worth £40k to £70k.

Oh dear, This is one of those questions you really should have asked in private along with your bum chums chuck n the gang.

First came the thread "this thread is not about SVM" and now this, what is this, some kind of head hunt? This just goes to show that hate spreads like wild fire online, I thought that you would have known better Z?!

Seeing as though you must have hit submit be accident, I'll do my best to put this thread to bed as quickly as possible.

TVRs use normally aspirated engines that have been around for 60 or so million years.

History (and common sense) tells us that there is very little to go wrong with these antique engines so when the Jerry Atricks at TVR power turn up the wick to 150BHP they're not really worried about the head blowing off probably because theres about as much compression in a kettle as there is in an 8 Ltr TVR engine.

By comparison, in an 850 BHP twin turbo whipper snapper like a GTR, it's obvious that there is much more that could go wrong, potentially, which is why unlike death and taxes there are no guarantees.

If you deside to go down the route of swapping your k&n airfilter for something a little more risqué it should be done on a trust basis, which is why after carrying out umpteen conversions without any problems, SVM should be at the very top of your list.

Bottom line is that of you can't afford to fix it don't play with it there's a good boy

PS. My regards to chuck n the gang

Hmm, I'm not, but they were posting at the time.

It's a fair question and it would be nice to hear from some of the tuner's

I'm not a hater and I can afford a new engine btw

Now now gentlemen, lets all be civil eh and keep any hating or fanboi nonsense off this thread.

I feel there is a fair question at the heart of this.

No hating, and no fanboi nonsense either.

Just a simple question for those considering an upgrade, which is what type of warranty/guarantee can be expected on a conversion from any tuner?

Personally my thoughts are on the lines that there will be a manufacturers' warranty on parts and the tuner will warranty their work to fit them, but all else is open game.

I'm also sure that a decent tuner will be honest and if a failure did occur they'd hold their hands up and at least offer a discounted rate to repair a failure which may have been indirectly/directly caused by their work.

Dont forget that myself and may others have upgraded our GTRs without having a tuner do any of the work and as such have only the limited warranty on the parts themselves.

I'm sure I remember Iain saying at japfest that they were looking to offer an extended warranty as cars mature out of their manufacture warranty that would also cover mods that Litchfield fit to the cars as well. Also I vaguely recall hearingthat some Jap imports were tuned and warranty honoured on the modified car by Middlehurst....

Yeah I heard that too.

Litchfields are definitely looking into the warranty thing.

Hi guys, sorry 4 the delay, yes our computers are normally on 24/7 on the GTROC forum lines and Amar and Myself update different sections at different times.

Unfortunately we cant stay on as long....with work commitments pending.

To answer our position on warranty on conversions carried out :-

SVM give all customers warranty of our workmanship, (something wrong with "our guys"we put it right) Customer statisfaction is of utmost importance to me and my company.

We also offer manufactures warranty on all parts fitted

Some parts are covered for life, some parts are covered for 12 months (depends on the part and manufacture)

If we get in "grey" areas we talk and always help...SVM have been established over 25yrs and don't walk away, were are hear for the long haul.

Some have you guys have already seen this..

Take Eddie C .. He ran 200mph and his lower lip was badly damaged

What did we do...run away..NO ? Get the excuse book out ? ..NO ... We resolved the issue !! complete replacement at no charge... and one happy bunny lol

We appreciate all and every customer ...even GTR owners that have never purchased from SVM "We give genuine help and advice"

Hope this info helps if any member has any direct questions aimed at SVM please email me directly on [email protected]

And I will endeavour to reply back

Kind Regards

kk

Early one's were Rover V8's, then they had their own V8 in the Cerb and a lot of the more mordern one's were Speed Sixes, that needed the valves checking regularly.

Not the exact same scenario but related nonetheless..

A mate of mine has a Ford Torino (yes, the Starsky and Hutch car and its a real one too!!) and after months of trying to rebuild the V8, he eventually got fed up and bought an uprated crate-engine from the states all tuned up (to 450hp) and ready to go. A proper turn-key engine. Came with a pretty comprehensive warranty in all fairness. This warranty still applied to international customers and was not solely for continental US customers.
Why can we not get tht in the UK??

I'm sure these grey areas wouldn't be so grey in a 850+ build as the whole engine is totally uprated and any failures are obvious. I think the guys running 600ish are also pretty safe as they are well withing the 750 builds that still use standard internals.

The people most at risk of needing a warranty are the 750 guys, if this is the upper limit of what is safe with the engine then by definition they are also running closest to an engine failure.
