Sounds like nonsense to me. The principle of recycling is simply to save raw materials, in no way does it mean an inferior product. The manufacturer will have specs and tolerances to meet and that is that.

Actually on close inspection it probably did stop the car getting worse, it just isn’t that well done combined with the por15 not really being very good. We’ve got a lot of fresh surface rust, it’s not pretty but not structural. The stuff that wasn’t done well was cheap fixings and bolts that have basically corroded straight away. They’ll be replaced with stainless this time.

Plan is to remove whole lot.

All the Nismo underside items have crap paint and are painted thin and poorly so start to show surface rust and chip very easlily.

Be careful about mixing stainless with mild steel, and certainly not galvanised steel and stainless bolts, the dissimilar metals corrode quickly, galvanising corrodes much quicker when attached to stainless. You need to use insulating washers on your st st bolts to help prevent bi-metallic corrosion.
Also,you really need to galvanise items that you intend to powder coat, as 1 pin hole through the powder coat will start corroding the steel very quickly as Morgan and TVR found out on their GRP bodied cars.

I don't understand how that rust looks worse on your 2000 mile part than the ones on my 19yr old GTT? Has the car lived by the coast, or up in Scotland perhaps? Or is this a case of poor air circulation where its being parked causing moisture corrosion?

No idea, car was garaged ever since the last refurb and has only done 2000 miles in 2 yrs. This time I will be protecting the Nismo parts.

Just being in a garage wont prevent rust if the garage is wrong. You need a drafty garage with good air circulation or a proper insulated garage with a dehumidifier. A small sealed garage with condensation, or a damp garage when it rains will be no better than leaving the car parked outside if the moisture is trapped with the car.

(edit) my bad I didn't realise you bought the car back so probably dont know how it was stored.

If that was the state of a protected, garaged & cherished (PG&C) car's arm I don't even want to imagine of a non PG&C arm!!

Basically the Nismo parts have just a silver paint on, no protection at all. I’m not impressed how they held up at all. But again it is only surface and not serious, not pretty that’s all.
