So close to getting my GTR

After so long of waiting and thinking I've finally took the leap and went for it By tomorrow if everything goes ok (fingers crossed but I am always a pessimist) I should be a proud owner of a 59 plate Kuro Black GTR.

I already have a few quick questions for now

- I noticed the sidelights are yellow and I prefer one of them LED ones. Is this just a straight swap or are there special requirements?
- I live around Kettering, East Midlands. What independant garage would you recommend me to go to? I still have around 8 months left on manufacturers
- After expiration of manufacturers warranty, what is the recommended step? Are there any recommendations?
- Are there anything in particular to look for when taking receipt of the car? Just something I can quickly check to make sure everything is fine (some functions on the computer etc?)

Hello mate,

You won't regret it, I picked mine up yesterday, it's the nuts.

I was looking at changing the sidelight bulbs but apparently the LEDs don't work to well due to the angle that the bulb is inserted at.

From what I've read on here Litchfields seem to be the best independant but I popped into my local main dealer yesterday and were more than impressed with customer service and prices (£120 per hour). They even quoted my £60 to fit a Y Pipe.

Wheres your proposed GTR listed that you're looking at and how much £??

Good luck,

Mart

Hi, Im pretty close to you (Peterborough) and have just bought a GTR as well. I'm in a similar situation ref servicing as we're not overly close to the places recommended on here. There's no way I'm going to the Peterborough Nissan dealers though so it may be a road trip is needed.

Good luck with getting the car, I've had mine a couple of weeks now so I'm still getting used to it. Quite a machine!

Ah, thanks for the input re the sidelights... I guess I will have to research a method then as I (personally) think the yellow tint spoils the look a little :P Perhaps its possible to source similiar bulbs that half a whiter appearance? (Philips?)

Finance just been approved so it's a matter of picking the car up tomorrow but I am every the pessimist lol hopefully everything goes as planned!

Thumbs up

Please let me know if you find a decent bulb that gives a bright 'factory' look and I'll get some as well, obviously if I find something in the meantime, I'll let you know.

Good luck collecting 'The Weapon' tomorrow!

Mart

It's a late 59 with hd screen and iPod connector in the console (which are the two things i wanted) so I think it's the my10 thing that everyone bangs on about? I'm still perplexed that they released the GTR with all it's wizardry with no sat nav in the first place?

Apparently you can check the vin number but I'm not overly bothered. I did want the sat nav and iPod connector so it ticked my boxes.

Yeah mine comes with Sat Nav and USB connector but I am sure its not the MY10 due to the VIN (needs to contain a "12" instead of a "10")

The Sat Nav issues could be a bit confusing but it *should* be available to all 09 models but because there was a shortage of screens during production (or so I've heard) Nissan decided to ship some over without the screen installed.

There are quite a few difference from MY10 models but not as much as MY11. I would've loved a proper MY10 but my budget can't stretch that far for now Like you I am happy having the USB connector and a sat nav so that's why I went for this one.

Yes, apparently there's a mod (in the FAQ) about lighting all four rings when braking.

I think I will keep it easy with mods for first year of ownership lol (but I always say that and do the opposite :P)

Quick question since your car is almost similiar to mine, can I plug the ipod straight into the USB port using suitable cable?

I really liked the idea of the four rear lights on all the time, but when I saw one in the metal they were not the same brightness. Not sure if all kits are like that or because of what extra part they light up, but the inner rings were brighter so I changed my mind.

Figured it was better to have lights coming on than just getting a bit brighter when you stop as quickly as a GT-R can. The guy behind probably needs all the help he can get!

And I know the bell housing has been changed on this GTR you're looking at - so you're safe with knowing that - I know because I was going to buy this one and it was in having it done at the time - I got offered a deal closer to me so I went for another.

Good luck mate - hope it all goes well for you :-)

Yes, dealer did mention a lot been spent lately. Pardon my question but is the bell housing a common thing to change?

Unfortunately yes....Nissan are well aware of issues with them and a revised part is coming / in to circulation which should now prevent repeat failures. Some cars have not had any issues with it but others have had a couple of replacements.
