MY09 or MY10

Hi guys,

what would you recommend going for an MY09 or an MY10?

Im aware of the differences in MY09 and MY10 in regards to increased water pipe diameter, revised transmission control unit, rigidity or front trans unit etc etc.

But are there any major differences when it comes to performace? Or is it a case of I'd need to try both and figure it out myself?

There seems to be a £5k+ difference in price between the two. I just dont want to go and buy an MY09 safe a few grand then always with Id gone for an MY10

Ive seen a few 10 plates going for mid 40k. But for MY09 they seem to all be 40K or under, theres a nice black edition 09 reg for 39K at my closest HPC. 17k miles on the clock

No real performance differences; only nav/iPod if you are looking at a pre Sep 09 v MY10 comparison.

Middlehurst site has a good section on MY spec changes ( under 'the cars' tab if I remember )

It's like being on the MLR I went for a MY10 mainly because of the satnav which I need and is pretty impressive.

Does it have an interactive Nav? ie. one you can talk to and it talks back ?

Also I thought you can't get no launch control on the MY10s ?

Is that something that can be changed doing the gearbox update and a map for engine mods?

The low res screen is noticeably lower res, the sat nav is missing, the newer car has much better audio functionality with iPod control. I couldn't go or a non nav GTR.

Performance wise there's nothing in it and you can update the software of the gearbox in any model to include any version on launch control.

No pre 11 car has launch control as such, some just have a rev limit that depending on its value makes launch more effective than just booting it. The my11 onwards is proper launch control that minimises wheel slip.

Is this not covered by the gearbox software upgrades? LC4? Obviously warranty is then a concern...

I wanted a MY10 car however picked up a 24th December 2009 car instead based on price alone to be honest.

It still has all extras, ie. the widescreen NAV unit most importantly for me for use and future resale reasons its more appealing. Comes with all the IPOD connection, etc but has a VIN beginning with 10 not 12 so I assume it's a MY09?

Litchfield updated all my Launch Control and Gearbox settings so no difference to MY10 models although I'd say it's better now to be honest than the MY10 with the updates.

Less than 20k on clock and was under £37k in Gunmetal.

I was very close to buying a MY10 for £44k at the time and admittedly it was on 6,000 miles less as well but didn't feel a car fundamentally 3 and a 1/2 months newer (mine registered 24th December, MY10 was 1st March) I could justify an extra £7,000 to spend on for really minor additions and tweaks.

So I broke the rule of holding out for what I really wanted but for what I felt was a good reason my advice would be try them both and see if you can notice the difference then set yourself a price of what you think that difference is worth when looking to buy a GT-R for me though the difference was never worth £7k.

I did go in one with the original screen and I didn't like it, felt slower as well (the screen / settings / functionality not car) I would agree with the above mentioned and suggest you go for one with the later NAV set-up because 1.) I think it's good and 2.) it'll massively help in the future when you consider resale maybe?

The MY09 I've seen is being supplier with 1 year Nissan warranty, black edition. 17k miles on the clock. £39k

The MY10 will still have just over a years warrant left and is sat at 9k miles. £46k

Do in that respect Im in a very similar situation to you Andy.

I'd go spend an hour in the MY10 one, have a good sit it and fiddle, get a feel for it. Then do the same in the MY09. See if it's worth 7k. Probably not.

I wouldn't insist on an my10 over an my09 as such, I'd insist on a sat nav over a non sat nav.

I personally think there's little difference between MY09 and MY10 to warrant to price difference... MY11/12 however...
