Smile Boot locked - how to open from inside?

Help please with my R32 - somehow managed to lock boot closed - usually use wire release from cab, as the key doesn't work boot. cleaned carpets -closed boot lid and now the release cable does not release... got through back seat and opened into boot to get access to lock through a small square opening and moved the mechanism about but so far it has not effected a release. Any hints tips or ways to open please?

Tnx
