My exhaust choice for my GTR

I meant to do this write up a long time ago, business and personal commitments have stopped me.

I am posting this to give people another option for a good quality exhaust and reasonable cost too, which these days is hard to find. Finding something great quality without badge tax is rare these days.

The exhaust was made for me by Russ Fellows Fabrications, Russ is a top guy and can do anything with metal. His workmanship is second to none. Unfortunately I sold my car on, BarryP on here inherited the exhaust and Im sure he'll testify to how good it is.

See pics below.

Fitting was straightforward, infact with the V Band clamps its even easier than the stock exhaust. No need for gaskets.

Quality is superb, as the pictures below demonstrate. Stainless Steel. 3.5inch. Y pipe included.

Noise.. well what can I say, the noise is glorious. Not too loud, perfect cruising around, then open up and she howls- sounding like an exotic.
In cabin is obviously louder than stock(what is'nt), but its not intrusive, doesnt drone and makes the car feel like a completely different beast. You can actually hear what the engine is doing. Motorway cruising is slightly louder than stock.

I didnt remap my car and it didnt need it, it made 519bhp with just this exhaust alone. BarryP went on to remap the car after he bought it from me and it made 600+bhp from remap with only other mod being this exhaust.

Cost of this exhaust is approx £1600inc vat. Which is a bargain, considering the workmanship, quality and cost of other exhausts out there.

See photos and make up your own mind.

As Lawsy has said I bought the car off him with this exhaust on it and I am very pleased, the y pipe is part of the system and the v clamps make a great fitment. I'm sure Russ could make up a system from the Y pipe backwards so it mates up with an existing Y pipe. Sounds excellent, on tick over it is quieter than my Evo IX system but sounds superb when you floor the throttle.Another nice little bonus is it has a pair of sports cats fitted into the Y pipe so it is still MOT friendly if you have removed the OEM downpipes. These systems are excellent value for money when you cost out it includes the Y pipe and the sports cats.

I enjoyed the video but I think it would be too loud for me! I just like how the 35 sounds as standard or with a Y pipe is fine.

Talking

That sounds lovely and looks like a quality item ; )

Treg mate, funny you should say that as my mates said they loved the sound of mine whilst out on a run this morning. I couldn't really hear much of it but a fella a few cars back from where I was in the pack said they loved listening to it disappear when at full chat

I still want the noise though and hopefully my Japspeed Y should turn up tomorrow

Its just I've had noisy exhausts on Gtrs and to me they just get annoying after a while.

Sorry to ressurect an old thread but I am seriously looking at getting one of these exhausts - but I was wondering if anyone who has one has been through an MOT yet without issues? Barryp - I notice you mention the y-pipe has sports cats included but Russ suggested he had just modified an OEM y-pipe for you so that it fits the rest of the exhaust to allow you to swap over. Did you get him to do this for MOT reasons or for something else? Thanks

As long as you still retain the front cats in the downpipes, your car will easily pass an MOT test, no problems.

Russ has recently modified a set of OEM y pipe cats to fit the v band system because I had downpipes fitted which removed all the cats from the system. I originally thought my y pipe had sports cats in it but it was just the bulge of the y pipe to drop the noise level a touch. The modified standard Y pipe can be fitted at MOT time if required.
I'm still really pleased with the system, it sounds fantastic and gave some good results on the Dyno when it was remapped after the downpipes were fitted. Russ' quality of work is first rate, the system fits really well, gives a great sound and a significant improvement in power output for a very reasonable cost.

excellent, thanks for the responses guys. I'll still have the standard downpipes so sounds like I should be fine.
