Need some advice

Went to see a very low mileage JDM GTR (I'm in HK they are all JDM) and when I started the car the VDC off + Slip Light + Triangle warning came on together with the below displayed?

Do you think this is a costly repair issue? Car is very nicely priced and low mileage. Thx for any advice!!

The message translated is "VDC System is Malfunctioning Please check at the next service centre immediately"

If we had official vehicles it would be an easy fix (warranty/dealer) but we have scam shops in HK and from what I have read it could a simple thing like a low battery, brake fluid needs topping up or more serious ABS pump need replacing which will cost $$$.

If anyone has had experience with the VDC off Light ON + Slip Light ON + Triangle Warning ON together with the above message, really really appreciate your input as I really like the guys car.

Background - This seller has like 6 cars including SLS, Avantador, F458, F430 Scuderia, 991. I'm hoping this error with the GTR may have something to do with him leaving the vehicle for extended periods in the carpark.

Once again really appreciate some input.

P.S. Owning a GTR is not fun in HK as say in the UK where your have great tuners like Litchfield / GTC who are straight hitters and warrantied vehicles with HPC. In HK I find they don't want to tell you the real issue or share information. I paid for the dame inspection today at a HK tuner and I called to ask for the error code, but the guy just would not give it to me, just said it cost $x to fix. Honestly, I don't really trust them as when he quoted me for the inspection it was 100GBP and then when I came to paying he said it should be 150GBP

I did, but I don't trust them. Asked for the codes so I could determine the real issues but would not provide them to me. There is a local expert on the GTR's and he quoted me $30K HKD abt 3K GBP to fix this. Top Racing said abt $14K HKD, but then they told me to inspect the car it would cost $1K HKD but turned out to be $1.5K HKD. I dun trust them.

So, non of the UK GTR's ever had these issue? I dun some search on here and NAGTROC and only found 1 other member asking the same question (he was from Singapore if I recall and his was JDM too). Seems like this never happens in the U.K. Thats a good thing by the way.

Did they not say what they're doing for the 14k?

I assume just gearbox out and clean?

That is to replace the abs pump. but the pump cost more than that. I'm guessing they will just inflate the price as they are half way the job. The car had its brake discs changed to AP all round and I'm guesting these clowns did not remove the cylinder cap when depressing the calipers causing the blowout on the master cylinder or Abs pump.

I'm really unsure whether to get this vehicle but its very low mileage and the price is really attractive - the abs pump issue, just not sure whether this is a sign of things to come/fix. Barre to have brought a can of worms. Hence really needed owners advice. Sigh.

Ah, that would be my guess as well... I know about shady tuner shops in HK but if you are "in the know" there are some more upmarket proper shops as well. Judging from your concerns and that suspiciously low mileage on a pre MY11 model I would really walk away...

In which case ask yourself this.

If he has the money, why hasnt he fixed the GTR himself?

My guess is that it's more ****ed than it appears.

From my understanding he had the disc fitted 2 months ago and there was no error. Been sitting for like 40 days since, during this time he ordered the new 991 and it is due for delivery on Tuesday and he's trying to unload it without the fix. Guys pretty clueless about the car and dissent even know the tuner upgraded his circlip, fitted mines edu etc. need the tuner to tell me after checking his registration on what has been tuned. But again I don't trust the tuner so if I do decide to take a second look I will take it to the gtr specialist II believe who is more candid. But it does get me thinking.

They were trying to play sneaky with me by having the tuner clear the codes before I had a go. To be fair to the tuner he did mention it but he said it in such a way that it was like a $50 pound fix. When I started the car the errors immediately popped up. Instead of trusting the tuners quite I called the gtr guru and he said the pump is frigging expensive, not the quoted figure by the tuner. I was shocked to say the lest.

There's one other thing, when I lifted the carpet in the boot, the seal material, white in color on each side had a slightly different tint to them. Is this normal?

I know its frustrating, I went to see 10 or more GTR's when I was buying earlier in the year and I was tempted by a number, but walked away because I was upset by the condition of them! As said above if it was a minor fix why hasn't it been fixed? If there is no warranty and no trust worthy garages its just not worth it! Keep looking one will turn up that is right!

yes, I'm getting a little frustrated in calling, viewing, testing and repeating the process. I was hoping this may just be that a ABS pump fix and we would be ok.

I did find a ABS pump from ebay for like 350GBP, do you think its worth the risk in getting this car if this is the only issue with the vehicle? If I proceed I will get the car re-inspected and double check the error code from the local GTR guru thats trusty?

Regarding warranty, 99% of HK GTR's have non as the local Nissan importer didn't import the car until JDM MY11 and MY12. All of the vehicles I get to see locally are either 2008 or you will need to jump to 2011/2012. 2011/12 are abt the same price as a used Lambo Gallardo in HK. (not saying I would prefer the lambo, just they aren't cheap)

I do have an option, there is a local UK GTR MY09 reg. 2010 forsale and if this does not pan out I will buy that one although its abt 15K GBP more. Run like 4000 miles and mint.

The 08 car is mint, has most of the mods I want (not excessive) and is beautifully priced with 10,000km (abt 6000 miles).

What do you think?

would a 09 UK GTR ABS pump fit into a 2008 JDM GTR? If so, the fix would be way reduced. I found one in a UK breakers.
