Looking for a GTR, advise/info wanted

Just new to the forum and having a look around at the minute... hopefully in January I'll be lucky enough to purchase a GT R (if the right on comes up) and would just like you guys to help out a little... sorry if there's already millions of threads asking the same think already!!

I'm looking at 2009, maybe 2010 cars and have found a few a my price range with 30,000 ish miles on... would this bother you or would you look for as low as you can get?

What's the main things to look out for with the cars? recalls? upgrade parts?

And just any other helpful thoughts you may have...

Cheers

Phil

As Flynn says and milleage isn't an issue as long as the car has been treated well and serviced correctly. They are extremely reliable. I would also recommend getting it inspected by Sly at Kaizer Motors or Iain at Litchfield's if you aren't familiar with them mechanically so you can get an idea of what might need to be spent on top of the price quoted.

You need to get your hands on a low mileage, 1 owner, completely unmolested example with a full service history. I would prefer service history from Litchfield's over NHPC. Litchfield's don't do Micra's!

I would keep an eye on the for sale section on here, some good examples come up there.

Stand out from the crowd in this one

Thanks for info so far guys! The one I'm currently looking at is...

(Ahh just found out I can't post up links just yet)

It's a white GT R black edition, 33,000 miles, 59 plate from 'Keighley Trade Sports & Performance'

Is this car recognised by any of you fella's and/or have you had any dealing with this garage in the past?

Keep an eye on here and PH/autotrader, if you can get your finance sorted before hand or cash you should be able to get one 33-35k (before anyone jumps out their skin an 09 model)

Most of the cars ive seen on Pistonheads are traders who buy them privately for around 33k-34k and stick 5k on them a day later, remember money talks so if you have finance/cash sorted you will be surprised what you can get, dont be afraid to make an offer too!

I am in the same boat, looking for one, ive been sidetracked a little with the arrival of an r32 gtr! Some of the examples being sold on here are the best imho, ppl who have looked after them well.

Keighley Trade have a reputation on pretty much every single marque and general car enthusiast forum going.

It takes quite some going to establish the type of record that they have...

Main things to look out for are a cared for car in good nick and of course a full service history, but dont be put off if its been serviced at traders Litchfields or SVM they know more about GTRs than most NHPC's.

Newish tyres, breaks and discs are always benefitial given if they need chaging soon after purchase you will be looking at a 4k bill. If they look as they need changing soon make sure you haggle the seller down.

Also if you are into modding cars buy one which has stage 2, 3 or 4 already it will save you 2-5k and this level of tune is quite safe.

If the car is out of warrenty ask for evidence if the bellhousing has been changed orr not. Its a common fault but will be fixed under warrenty, if older than 3 years it will cost you 1k to fix. The symptom is a pronnounced metalic rattle under the car from the prop shaft area when the car is cold and ideling or at around 1.5k revs.

Pistonheads is probably the best all round site to pick up a car or try Litchfields or extreme UK in the midlands.

Good luck

The car forum I'm coming from (focus rs oc) has basically no dealings with them... although I guessing from the way you've mentioned them that it's not the best reputation?!?

Would love to go down the modded GT R route but unfortunately due to my age, insurance would just have a laugh at me... my current car is fairly highly modded but a standard GT R is all I can go for at the minute

I completely agree with Blitzer. I have just bought my one 3 weeks ago! Was hunting for a little while whilst I had the cash ready. Found one 447 miles away from me that seemed to be immaculate, standard and very well maintained. It was also just service by Alex F Nobles and had brand new tyres all round. I noticed it had been up for sale for a while so as Blitzer recommended...I started the negotiations!!!

I ended up with what can only be described as IMMACULATE 2009 '09' Black Edition with 26k on the clock for under £32k!!!

As mentioned earlier, mileage wouldn't overly concern me if the car has been meticulously maintained.

Good luck with the hunting and bargaining!!!

Oh, I forgot to ad that I purchased a Ferrari 360 Spyder from Keighley Trade Centre just over a year ago. The guys there were very helpful and polite, and I would estimate that they hold over £3M worth of stock - so are pretty big in their game.

When I took my car into a Local Specialist, I was laughed at for buying a car from a non specialist! It had DOUBLE the recommended engine oil level and some other basics that should have been addressed at point of sale were missed out completely. I had a £3k bill 2 days after I purchased the car!!! May be this was I one off - but I personally wouldn't purchase a car from them again without a full inspection from a specialist.

Hope that helps...

I would imagine the time of year has something to do with that as well.

Now is a good time to buy and as Matty says if you've got the cash up front (or have sorted the finance) you can have a good haggle.

They're always cheaper leading up to Xmas and new year because the market is stale.

I sell mini tractors and it's dead around that time of year yet as soon as we hit the new year people start looking and planning for the summer. I've had more calls in the last couple of days than I've had last month.

Prices will definately firm up because more buyers are out there in the new year. I bought mine last Xmas and noticed the dip so jumped in, they were definately more expensive a couple of months later.

Cheers for all the info and advise! I think I'm going to go and look at the GT R at Keighley Trade... but just as a car to compare others too as there is another one pretty close to that area I will look at on the same day

Regarding changes to the car such as bellhousing and trans upgrade I've read about... if the car is still under warranty are these done free of charge by Nissan... and what else should I be checking that's been done on early 2010 models?

I spoke to dealer the other day and the MY10 (with Nav etc) are holding up around £40K private £44K trade and more with good, respected tuner, mods.

My car has 27K on clock and never missed a beat other than the bell housing - higher mileage I cannot see being an issue at all.
