high idle when cold

When i start the car from cold it revs at 2.2k revs for 30-40 secs before settling down to 1k. Also when the revs drop from 2.2k to 1k when cold there's ŕ slight vibration from the engine/drivetrain.

Are these normal or does it need a map tweak?

The car is stage 5 and its been tweaked so many times and for so long i cant remember what's normal LOL.

Are you on EcuTek? There was a small bug a while ago that made the idle rise as you describe. Talk to your tuner (if on EcuTek)!

I would say mine goes to 2k for about 5-10 seconds then drops to 1500 and slowly works its way down. I'm usually in reverse by this time so couldn't say how long it takes to get to 1k but yours sounds like its running high for quite a long time.

Drivetrain vibrations sounds like bell housing but difficult to say.

It revs high on initial start up because that is the electronic 'choke' working .

Im stg2 ecutek and yes it does rev high on first start. Settles down in maybe 10secs or so. I think it started doing it after a routine free ecutek update i had whilst last time at litchfields. I meant to ask when i went to get warranty with them but forgot. It does worry me a bit revving so high straight from cold start, so if anyone is at litchos or you read this Ian, maybe someone can ask/answer. Is it adjustable with ecutek cable i have?
Or is it nowt to worry about.

As Vanos mentioned there was a bug in the EcuTek code released around April 2013 that caused this.
Phone and speak to Iain about it as I doubt it would be picked up from a post here - it is sorted in a later release that will bring a number of other improvements.

^Thanks, I just asked and was very promptly given by return an updated map for my car by Iain. good service as usual.

Now to play with the ECUTek cable etc for the first time
any tips anyone? Iain has sent quite a thorough instruction sheet with the map already though.

Have noticed similar symptoms, but wasn't aware it was a bug and fixed in an update. Thanks for the thread.

Mine does it but by 'high' it's 1500rpm for also about 10 seconds.
Thought mine had the latest EcuTEK on it (done May 2013).

I think 1500rpm is normal for coldstart idle. Mine did use to overrev slightly on coldstart but has been sorted with the latest round of mapping. I would get the bellhousing checked out if you are getting vibration at idle, that's the symptom I was getting before mine went.

The behaviour of concern revs to about 2.5K+ for around 10+ seconds.

Thanks for the replies guys, I didn't realise there was a bug, my car was updated in April. Ian's sending me an update to clear it.

The vibration is very minor just about noticeable I'll keep an eye on it.

Anything above 1500 is a bug. Mine never did it, despite multiple map revisions.

Mine had the same problem after the latest Ecutek version was loaded.
Had the car down at Litcho's for some work shortly after and Iain sorted it out for me. Known issue seemingly.

Loaded the map Iain sent through using the ecutek cable, problem solved
This is the first time I have used the cable and application and it provides an impressive amount of functionality

+1

I'll be getting mine update next month when my 36 month service is due.

I also seem to have an annoying 'flat spot' in the middle of 3rd gear at around 4krpm which i need to get sorted.
