Exhausts, DB's and trackdays

What exhaust mods do you guys have and what db do they kick out.

On previous Gtr I had a Russ fellows full system (except dp) and failed noise at donny drive by?

I know Russ has changed silencer design slightly since.

Is a y pipe on its own fine for track work

I'm at Combe soon and don't want to fail the test in the shed with the 2 yodas

Many thanks in advance

I was running milltek ypipe and downpipes, with low boost and slightly short shifting and hit 106dbs. Marshall had a kind word.... Now I am running a silenced WhifBitz ypipe which is much quieter, but it's not been measured yet.

I just have a Y pipe and that recently showed 102db at Cadwell park where the limit was 105db, so just under.

Some tracks (is it Bedford?) have really low limits where even my mini sprint car fails.

Sounds like just 1 run at Marham for me tomorrow then before I get flagged.

Miltek, non-res y-pipe and downpipes.

I feel your pain Shane. I got caught out at Combe last year by those guys. Russ has since added extra silencing so all 'should' be good for 31st August. I also have some bungs you can borrow if you need them at Combe

Isn't Combe static only? My Akrapovic with Milltek downpipes was only 94dB static at Bedford. Have to back off for the driveby mics though.

I think they have driveby monitors at Combe David?

Do a search. I wrote loads on here when I got my 35, 5 years ago and have a 90mm complete Miltek System but NO downpipes as you won't get on at Bedford as the drive by is 87dB.

My car gets on at ALL tracks hence, why I went the silent but deadly route !!!

Even just a Y pipe on a standard exhaust fails at Bedford

This is exactly why I have a new exhaust en route!

Downpipes are essential once you start to go wild, but limit where you can track it.

The aim is that the new exhaust is going to pass emissions, and static and driveby noise tests but still have aftermarket downpipes and flow enough for over 1000bhp.

Comb is my home circuit, letís just say they do a static test and as long as you pass that the "other" monitors are usually err ignored, unless you are a total and utter moppet with an unrestricted exhaust!!

Is that with a non-res y-pipe?

I used the crappy iphone app and is actually read 99db so sounds about right.

At 3000rpm its 101db. Car wasn't warm so wasn't prepared to high rev it.

Last time at Brands, mine was static tested at 92dB.. Akra evolution setup with std
downpipes.
Would love to get downpipes, but then have to change the setup to something quieter like milltek or an Adam special one.

It would only let me rev to 5k when standstill thou.

Yeah maybe in theory, but I've not known anyone to get thrown off at Combe for drive-by. That is hardly definitive though!

Any special baffles in there for the test Steve?

unsilenced miltek y pipe, std catback 101db, unsilenced miltek y pipe, miltek cat back 96db, silenced miltek y pipe, miltek catback 92db, silenced miltek y pipe, miltek catback + gtc down pipes and bigger turbo's 96db. These are sneterton.

But will set off drive by noise meters when very hot at snetterton, but only if taking liberty's. By far the noisest combo for me was when i has just changed the y pipe over. The std cat back is completly ineffective, and the design relies upon the cat's in the y pipe for sound reduction. Full exhaust with silenced y pipe is the way to go. leave downpipes alone unless you are prepared to frig around with bolt on tailpipe resonators. I use the miltek ones, but generally just back off at the drive by meter, and hardly ever use but they are in the boot just in case. hope this helps.

I was 98db (static, 4800 rpm...i think) with standard back section and y pipe at Snetterton.

Anyway, more importantly, what you bought Standard or not?

What y pipe Flynn, Russ or miltek?

Just standard Flynn. But will be getting Andy to do a quick map before Combe.

Got one at a decent enough price to get a few ponies out.
