Went two years ago in GT2 but it snowed and all the passes were shut and we ended up doing the b500 instead.

Excellent trip but still want to do the passes.

Great idea, where do I sign-on?

Another good piece here (GT-R at 06:40) and very fair comment from Jethro.

Be warned. The Stevio is a very busy place with buses, cyclists, motorbikes, hikers and other cars. You'd have to be very lucky to get a clear run at it. I thought the run into Davos was far better. Its a great well surfaced road with plenty of fast corners you can see through.

However its a fantastic piece of road and has to be done.

Never understood the fascination of the Stelvio. Itís one blind hairpin after another. Itís narrow, filled with cyclists, and difficult to have much fun on. There are far better roads.

What's that amazing road (Transfagarin or something) in Romania which is supposed to be far, far better and empty (it is a bloody long way though). I have a friend in Bucharest and she says it is incredible (and drives a 1.0 Clio so it must be good)

I'd love to do that, definitely a 4-5 day club trip for a sunrise run then a sunset. GoPro's at the ready!

Got to say, that GT3 is some car. Never been a 911 fan particularly but I love it.

I was on that very road earlier this year ; ) however I was walking it in about 5ft of snow lol. The local Mountain police escorted us through one of the tunnels as well so we could get to the other side of the mountain. The views were just fantastic. Capped it off with a blat across the top near the lake house on a snowmobile I stayed in the ice hotel at the top of the mountain which that road goes through. Fantastic place and somewhere I'd love to return to in the summer.

When I get a chance ill post a pic of how the road looked in the winter.

Just come back from the Stelvio and to be honest it sounds like it was dead when I did it. I passed more cyclists (insane people cycling up that thing!!!) and absolutely no buses.
Overall a great experience but not one to to test the limits of the GTR. If anything I thought the GTR wasn't particularly well suited as a lot of hairpins if you hit them in first and tried to give it some stick out of it (while going up hill) the traction control would kick in and kill the acceleration. This was on dry roads? I did it up to Stelvio from Davos and then down the other side into Italy. I felt this was best as the Italy side is a bit more open and able to get a better run at it done the hill. I would say though that past Bormio the roads are in very poor condition and I spent most of the time listening to the "dinner plate" rattle due to the poor surface. I also developed the rear clicking noise from the offside rear when leaning into tight hairpin corners.

Still loved every minute of it but tough on the car

The Stelvio was on the agenda and route of the GTROC European tour in May 2012. Unfortunately it was closed by a massive snowstorm and we had to make our way through narrow tunnels and on roads that were strewn with boulders and snow. We still had a most amazing time and Sidepipe managed to get involved in a minor rock fall that needed some 'polishing' out and IMS picked up a few punctures.

We would love to plan another European trip next year that would include the Stelvio along with many other passes and perhaps a few optional tracks if there was sufficient interest.

That sounds great. I'd seriously love to do Spa, Nurburgring, Grimselpass, Stelvio and the Milau Suspension Bridge. Long route but doable in 5 days
