Hello from the GrammarPolice (full stop)

Long time browser (comma) first time poster.

I have been reading this forum for the past 6 (six)months to build up my knowledge of the R35 in order to aid me in a future purchase, sooner rather than later (comma) I hope.

I have enjoyed some characters more than others (comma) but as a group, you are all a class act! Bar that one person having a personal fight with Mook and Toni. (Subordinate clause - not a free standing sentence).

I have closely followed the projects section, with my stand out being Adamantiums (apostrophe missing but thanks for the comment!) car and splking (hope I've spelt those correctly, oh the irony).

That's me done criticising for the day!

Before I acknowledge any authority you might claim with regard to grammar, I'd like to know your credentials.

I fear that some may not understand some of your nuances but nevertheless you are most welcome.

We do have some "agent propagators" on this forum and this leads to some spicy dialogue and the occasional slap on the wrist by the moderators - I am not going to mention any name but they know who they are.

Have a great Christmas and welcome to the forum.

Btw GrammarPolice, I like your style.

Everyone should seek to better their grammar.

We are, however, all prone to mistakes.

I make far too many due to posting using apple products. Those I respect are the ones who read back their own drivel and can see where they went wrong.

I cannot bear incorrect conjugation of verbs.

I done this, he done that etc.

it breaks my heart when I read us forums and the standard of English is far superior from the average american Joe.

Your/you're

Their/there/they're

It's/its

To/too

Less/fewer

Different from instead of different to.

Adjacent instead of adjacent to.

No one takes any pride anymore.

I may be one of few when I say this but when some is trying to sell me something that requires me to trust in their competence or expertise, if they can't construct a sentence or at least know that someone else should write for them, then I lose all faith in them.

It's wrong of me, and I've learned that grammar is not synonymous with intelligence, but as a rule of thumb, it generally is. There are notable exceptions who have shown me up in the past, so I really shouldn't generalise, but deep routed bias is hard to shake off. It's taken me 36 years to develop this level of snobbery.

In the light if the above, I say welcome to the forum and bring it on!

First, I'm not a lawyer.

Second, you subsidise my car habit and I'll consider it.

Third, did everyone notice how I said first, second and third rather than firstly, secondly etc?

First and second are already adverbs. Firstly and secondly are unfortunate americanisms based on their inability to use an adverb without adding ly on the end.

I have met and gone for a drive with Trevgtr off the forum, so he is the only judge to my character off the forum.

But I'm just easy to wind up, probably reasons behind it, but nonetheless I'm not that bad I promise

Nurburgringgtr thanks for the welcome.

I'm not here to make people angry or to pick on anyone, just thought I would join the forum and get to know some of you.

Thought Christmas would be as good a day as any and with the recent outbreak in grammar, you get my drift lol. Would be nice to meet you on Saturday if I go.

Adamantium thank you for the welcome and the compliment of my style, that's how I roll!

I am similar in a way with regards to buying, but it would be wrong to pre judge or stereotype.

I too am typing from an iphone, so do make mistakes (albeit most of them intentionally, irony with the name etc).

If you are Swedish I'll doubt you'll need correcting, you'll speak and write better English than 95% of us.

This is somewhat ironic as it would appear that 'GrammarPolice' actually needs the grammar Police.
