differences in 09/10/11/12 r35 gtrs ?

I am soon going to be purchaseing my first r35 gtr

I am looking at 09 cars to keep the cost down.

are there any mechanical changes to the engines in the later models as they make another 100 odd hp ?

any advice would be much appreciated ive had a supra, r32 and r33 gtrs so the r35 is all new to me.

There's a lot of info but I still think the original is the best a 2008 car !!!!

well I cant find anything specific to what im asking.

im curious in any mechanical changes from 09 - 11 cars, if an 09 gtr is 590 hp stage 2, what is a 10 or 11 motor at stage 2 ?

same with transmission any changes ?

I think there is slight differences, but I could be wrong. I have a feeling the biggest engine change came from 2012 onwards.

Even then they will all make a similar sort of power when on eg stage 2, Its maybe just easier for the newer models to make the power

how do the 09 transmissions/diffs cope with launching at pod at stage 2 power ?

I'd aim for a MY10.

IIRC there was issues with 09's but I think that was imports.

Ive done loads of launches and had no issues. To give yourself piece of mine what ever you go for get the circlips done

I would say best bang for buck is a 59 plate but make sure its a nav version with USB etc as a few were released without. Then get a Cobb or ecutek for £800 tuned and you'll munch a 11 plate. Suspension, trim and another few bits were on the facelift 11 plate but they are about 12k over a 59 (they are newer of course).

Before you pay out on circlips speak to Iain at Litchfield.
I'm not sure he's seen many UK spec cars lunch the gearbox due to the original circlips unless they are running big power and doing a lot of launches.

I could be wrong, but fixing something that doesn't need doing and spending a few grand in the process doesn't make sense to me.

Put that money towards your budget and get an MY10 instead of an MY09.

The issues with launching were the early cars (MY08) that were not sold in the UK.
So they are the imports for people that couldn't wait and had problems that were resolved for the MY09 cars which were the first UK ones officially brought in.

By the way the main difference was in MY11 when they changed the turbo inlets to a slightly larger bore. That's when they went from almost 500bhp (official) stock to 520.
I believe because of this a stage 1 or 2 makes 5-10bhp more if the car is a MY11 or later.

But lets be honest, you'd hardly notice the difference.

The MY09-10 cars are pretty much the same mechanically.
I went for the MY10 because it had satnav, slightly altered suspension and a duct to help keep the gearbox cool.

It was on the MY11 the most changes were made, with DRLs in the front bumper, bigger brakes, better suspension, warranteed launch control and about 10% more downforce.

The circlips were pinging off when the yanks hit the drag strip with big power and slick tyres. Axle tramp. I dare say you could slide the coggs off quite a few gearboxes doing that sort of thing to them. Never had a problem with mine.

The mk1, the original and best. All the rest are just cost cutting marketing.

well I will be hitting santa pod but only on road tyres or r888s at most never drag slicks, and max of 600 hp.

would a Lichfield warranty cover the gearbox if using launch control on an 09 ?

For a definitive answer you need to talk to Iain, not much point in us guessing.

I've never taken any of mine up the drag strip as it's just too easy in an R35.
Launch control, go, done.

Track is where the fun starts IMO.

Interesting information, I am surprised there is not some kind of chart or revision details based on year and what mods were done compared to past models.

I will be in the market for a GTR some point next year would be nice to know what year to aim for with definitive details on revisions.

Just buy an old one and mod it - far more cost effective !!

By the sounds of it the new cars are more like comforatable old granny cars with soft seats and suspension and daytime GAY lights
