Aritcle in car and driver

Car and driver : http://www.caranddriver.com/article....rticle_id=8707

The illustration below depicts the upcoming Nissan Skyline GT-R. The GT-R version of the Skyline has always been a special high-performance offering in Nissan's lineup, and this one will continue that tradition. The GT-R probably has the record for the number of car-mag stories about a vehicle that has never been available in the U.S., and it remains high on our wish list.

Built on a new platform that is not shared with the standard-model Skyline, or Infiniti G35 coupe, as it's known stateside, it will likely make the GT-R far more expensive than run-of-the-mill G35 coupes.

There are conflicting reports out of Japan regarding the powerplant. One camp believes the GT-R will be powered by a Cosworth-developed twin-turbo version of the current 3.5-liter V-6, offering at least 450 horsepower. Others believe a new twin-turbo 3.2-liter V-6 will get the call.

To make sure the GT-R has supercar handling, chassis engineers from Lotus were selected to develop its steering, suspension, and drivetrain. Could this special Skyline so long denied to U.S. enthusiasts finally come to the States? "G35 GT-R" has a certain ring to it, but it's up to Nissan or Infiniti's product planners to decide whether it will come to our shores.

True, but it still looks ugly either way, I can't wait till nissan unveils the true design or we get some spy shots, I hope it doesnt look like that. It just looks like teh GTR concept rear with a G35 front end and some new bumper/grill combination..

total b.s. we already have known since 2001. I suspect it will be an infiniti, but no numbered affiliation, possibly just gtr as I assumed before. NO ONE has ever mentioned it being "r35", we just assume it will be so.

can't be 'R' as there are no more RB's. That's why the current skylines in Japan went to V35 because they are now VQDE's.

So if they're are going to use a VQ32DETT (which i think they will as they have been running these in the JGTC cars) it will be a V35 GTR. make sense?

and US doesn't count, they just throw the whole system outta whack.

Jeez how many times do we have to go through the same thing on this damn forum.

THE SKYLINE IS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE GTR ANYMORE. THERE WILL BE NO SKYLINE GTR, G35 GTR or V35 GTR. NISSAN ARE CALLING IT THE GTR AND THAT IS IT.

ANY PICTURES OF SPORTY LOOKING SKYLINE G35'S ARE B0LL0CKS THEY ARE NOT THE NEW GTR

There will probably be some factory used number, i.e R33, R34 but this has nothing to do with the naming of the car just a simple numeric project designation.

i think we know it's not going to be 'Skyline' just a Nissan GTR, but in terms of a model, it will be a V35 GTR if they use a VQ. But that V35 isn't for marketing, that's just the model number like E46 BMW (3 series) - It will stil have a 35 whatever, but not printed on a brochure.

yeah? or is that still wrong. cos that's they way i always thought it would work. Sold as a 'Nissan GTR' but will be in model terms a V35 GTR

EDIT: ohhhhh, if it's got nothing to do with a 'Skyline' anymore, than it wouldn't continue the 30 number series???

r34,

That wasn't directed at you just a general informational piece. Not everyone does know this. Take a look at every other thread on this area they all decend into pictures of Nismo modded G35 Skylines, 4 year old concept pictures and talk of Skyline GTRs

A complete waste of time....
