Noob Buying advise

Hi Guys,

I am in the market for a GTR and was hoping for a little advise.

My previous car was 911, sold a while back (took a massive loss!!) but I have always had a hankering for the GTR. I guess wet roads and rear wheel drive were not my thing !! plus the hate you feel from everyone when driving around in a porker didn't help either !!

Test driven a couple of GTR's in the past and was obviously blown away.

Been searching the online ads and come across 2 cars that take my fancy, flying back to UK tomorrow so gonna try to view asap as they are not to far from my UK address.

Ideally I would like Black (I don't usually like black cars but I think the GTR does look good in it) but I also like the gunmetal grey.

1st is the Black, has a Litchfield stage 1, 9000 miles 2012, 57K

Car 2 Grey, standard, 6000 miles 58K

Both cars are in my budget, don't really want to go over 60k.

I guess specs are pretty much the same with GTR's ?? How are these price wise, room to haggle with the dealers?

Also what are GTR's like to live with on a daily basis ?, I am not bothered about a firm ride, but what about ground clearance ? I only ask as my 911 was extremely low which started to become an issue, no big speed bumps, multi stories a no go, any ramps etc.. impossible ! not to bad when you know the roads you are driving but caused embarrassment several times when I got stuck and folks had to back up for me.

I see reliability is very good for GTR's apart from a few minor things, any thing to watch out for on the test drive?

Tried to add some links to the post but it will not let me.

Thanks again guys.

You need 15 posts before you can add links, that's why it won't let you.

Is car 2 also a 2012?

Black is nice, but be warned it's a nighmare to look after properly as it's the softest of all the paint colours.

Spec will be the same if they are the same age.
At those prices I'm assuming they are 2011 onwards which is the better spec.
Main choice was if you wanted premium seats (cloth and leather) or Recaro seats (all leather and firmer with more side support) which was a no cost option.

Reliability is good but you want to check for gears engaging smoothly (soleniods can gunk up), make sure no rattles when ticking over (bell housing, common issue), no condensation in headlights (common as seals fail) plus the usual stuff with any car.

They are a big car and the wheels are easy to kerb as it's so wide.
I'd suggest steering clear of multi story car parks until you are used to it or like shunting.

+1 on the black paint.... looks great for about 20 minutes after cleaning

Also have a look at tyres and brake wear, as they are quite costly.

Today I looked at 2 cars,

I am scratched the black off my list for now.

Looked at a white 2011 with 23k on the clock at a local Nissan dealer. Was very nice and I do think it looked nice in white but I don't think I can live with white on a daily basis, stands out a bit much for me. They were asking for 55k but were willing to negotiate to get me in the car.

Checked out the 2012 DMG with 6k miles miles also. Was pretty much like new, they are asking 58K but will not budge on the price, brakes looked like new but tires are half done so will need some early next year perhaps. The only thing weird was the boot smelt of mil dew, damp.

Nissan rang me back and I told them the white was a no go, I did tell them at the start that I wasn't too keen on white but as they were so close to me I might as well check it out.

Nissan then offered me a deal on a brand new one, 73K so 7k cheaper than list.

Ummm what to do .

Thanks for the advise guys,

I am taking delivery of my GTR on Tuesday !!

I viewed a few but was a bit miffed as they were all low mileage and had issues that I was not really happy with.

My GTR is a black 2011 with 3500miles on the clock !! from Nissan Bristol

I rang them up as I thought it may have been a misprint but they confirmed the mileage was accurate. Reserved it on the phone and went down. The car was absolutely mint, it was sat next to new one in the show room and you could not tell the difference.

Looking forward to picking it.

Cheers John.

Could induce something far more serious like smiles for miles as you pass everything and I mean everything on the road!
