Strong smell of fuel

I was wondering if anybody else has had this experience I was stuck in traffic for a long time I had about half a tank of fuel when I parked up the car smelt strongly of fuel to the point where it smelt like it was leaking! So I checked all round the car and under the Bonnet I couldn't find anything.
So I've come to the conclusion that the heat from the exhaust from sitting in traffic has heated up the fuel tank causing vapour to come out of a breather.
Car does not smell of fuel once it has cool down.

Yeah mate quite common, especially in hot weather. Can't remember the reason exactly but basically the vapour vents to air and smells like it's leaking. I've had it a handful of times since owning it over 2.5 years.
